If U Seek Amy Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Just now, Raspberries said: It won't be 70%. But it is likely going to be close to 60-40 (a 20 point win) That is about my prediction when all is said and done. If it ends up being 60-40 the irony that it is about a measure to increase the threshold to 60 and 60% beats it
Onyxmage Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 AMERICA IS WAKING UP! Spoiler not really but miracles do happen sometimes.

This dying a huge death is not even really about abortion or Republican vs Democratic. It is, but there's a chance No wins by more points here than Yes does on the actual question eventually come election day because it also is largely indicative of how ballot initiatives are popular in America as a form of direct democracy and how Americans are averse to any changes to those rights. It's been discussed on here at length with @Espresso and others but referendums are largely the most successful form of passing progressive legislation in the US at this point. See: states like Florida turning ruby red but then passing $15/hr minimum wage by a popular vote ballot initiative. The biggest hit to claims that America is largely centrist is that progressive policy constantly wins and comes out on top when put to a direct vote removed from partisanship. LustSpell Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 This was obvious ngl. Seeing the pushback was palpable even from out of state. Got a few friends who live in Ohio that were big angry about this and so was everyone they knew. Good tbh 1

This is how so many states have gotten legalized marijuana (which will be on the ballot in Ohio this November too) 1
Communion Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 (edited) This fuels some suspicions I have about even sparse suburbs in rural states but I'd love for someone from Ohio to give more context about that blue strip on the top left of what looks like to be largely well-off counties. Chemist Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Further proof that roe vs wade is the #1 reason why republicans keep flopping lately. Dems should keep on capitalizing on that
Mike91 Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 The GOP began to think they were untouchable, especially in conservative states. People are never going to vote for **** like this.
JustHoran Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Good for Ohio Republicans sure love taking all of our rights away, don't they? The meltdowns are hysterical.

It’s very clear that the majority of Americans support abortion, but these republicans haven’t learned anything from Kansas, the mid terms, Nebraska and South Carolina. They know this is a losing issue, but they are being funded by conservative billionaires and orgs like the Heritage Foundation so they are going to keep pushing this. They do not care what the people want. In fact, when the amendment passes in November, I would not put it past the Ohio GOP to ignore it and refuse to acknowledge it. The only saving grace may be Governor DeWine being somewhat of a less delusional Republican and is up for reelection so he may push it through and support it.

I don’t think there is literally anything they can do about a constitutional amendment. It skips right through the legislature/governor and goes straight into law. That’s why this past election was so critical
PoisonPill Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Though Dobbs was awful for women and pro-choice Americans, it turned out to be an absolute godsend for the Democrat Party. It's helped them clear the GOP in several elections they would've lost otherwise.
