Anyone else listening to more older music?

depends what you mean by older music?  I listen to a lot of 2000s music but I don't really find it old music.   Mainly 90s or earlier.

I go back and forth. I really try to keep up with newer music. But I do agree that less GREAT new music is being offered consistently to pop music listeners. If you’re a fan of other genres specifically you may be getting served more nowadays. Pop has definitely been in a rut for a while now, which is my preferred genre.

Social media/Twitter really did a number on a lot of newer artists today. I consider that a big player in why music just isn’t hitting quite the same. I just get this sense they’re all super sensitive to the GPs opinion and it seriously affects their art/perception of themselves. They’re self aware to a detrimental point. I kind of miss lack of self awareness. The older artists seemed way better at tuning stuff out.

I grew up in a very religious family so I never really got to hear all the songs and albums that are considered classics. That's why I love going back now and finding all these amazing artists and albums that I haven't even heard of before. I heard Wicked Game for the first time last year and now it's probably my favorite song of all time. Last week I heard some of Blondie's classics for the first time and fell in love with Atomic. Same with ELO, Pink Floyd and The Moody Blues. I hadn't heard any of their songs before and every single album felt like a great discovery.

But I do enjoy some more current music as well. Taylor, Billie and Lana are my favorites out of the mainstream artists of our time. Then there are also plenty of lesser known artists who release music that doesn't feel like it's made for Tiktok. Auri, C Duncan, Steady Holiday, Georgia Train and Yola just to name a few but finding them wasn't easy. So there is still interesting music to be found, one just needs to do some digging to find it.

i've always been a oldhead. growing up my parents would always play their music from the 70's and 80's.

my dad loved Queen, David Bowie etc and even Sonny and Cher .

my mom is a huge Whitney/Madonna stan. Bodyguard OST and Immaculate Collection was on heavy rotation growing up.

also in my country, most radio stations would play older music (mostly 80's/90's) all day on Sundays. so for me 80's music gives me actual nostalgia even though i wasn't even alive during that time.
