Konril Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Second viewing is better ngl. Still felt the disconnect of Ollie's overt obsession with Felix when his ultimate plan all along was to get the Catton's riches anyway. Oli getting on with Venetia and Farleigh was necessary. I really feel Fennell needs a co-writer to tighten the Act 3 of her scripts because Act 1 and Act were so solid. This really is my Babylon of 2023. A flawed movie that I absolutely love with a great soundtrack. 2
Adam’s Eve Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Watched last night. I thought the trailer looked **** so I wasn’t going to watch until someone at work recommended it to me. My god this film was so horny, I got h*rd multiple times. Ollie was really doing it for me. The bottoming and vampire scenes.

He’s only sexually active with women, but aloof and ambivalent to all sexual advances and tension from everyone. if I’m going to honest, I’m kind of tired of the gay perverse “villain” lusting after the perfect straight man written and performed my straight people. But I will say this was one of the best versions of this trope that I’ve seen 3

Spoiler I think if his end goal was to take the Cattons' wealth then he needed a vehicle to get there, and that's Felix. So to me it kinda makes sense why the obsession story felt incomplete. Its the same "disconnect", as you say, or doubt that the other characters around Felix feel about Oliver. They tried to trick viewers into thinking its about his obsession until the last act, where they reveal the elaborate plot. I agree though, movies like these often leaves a lot of questions. Still enjoyable though.

Still enjoyable though. Spoiler I don't think it had anything to do with wealth since Oliver had already come from a family with some money. There was a video I saw, can't find it now unfortunately, that had a really good explanation.... basically, Vanetia was the only one that had Oli figured out at the end when she said he was like a moth. Attracted to pretty and making holes in everything. It was all about the manipulation and destruction of perfection, if you will. The family's wealth was just a bonus.

Spoiler I think that's still about the wealth, about either acquiring or defiling Saltburn. The point being Felix was a vehicle to achieve either or both. Also i think people with some money are just as obsessed with wealth if not more, so him being from suburbs doesn't cancel that motive. Interesting thoughts though, it'd be interesting to watch that video.
Freaky Prince Posted January 5 Posted January 5 The way nothing about this movie was as shocking as TikTok made it out to be Thank you for paying Sophie's next few bills tho. 3
chris1991 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Entertaining and pretty look at but I found it quite meh. Like other than dance scene and peen, it’s quite forgettable. 2
kishi Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I still have my doubts about what happened between Farleigh and Oliver, but it was HOT!
JoeAg Posted January 6 Posted January 6 this movie wasn't that good I understand why it's so popular lately, considering the great homoeroticism of some of the scenes. but in all honesty, a lot of it felt like... the director must think that the audience is not well-versed in subtlety, if that makes sense. I loved the last few scenes at the tail end of the movie. I gave it a 2.5/5 on letterboxd, if you wanna check out my full review 4

Pendulum Posted January 6 Posted January 6 You know what, this movie is seriously pissing me off. People praising this too. The same people who probably watch one movie per month. Promising Young Woman was great but I just don't understand how that Emerald girlie could go from PYW to some Mr Ripley x Parasite crossover written from memory. The class commentary people are mentioning is nowhere to be found. You don't even have to be a movie buff to be able to see through the bullshit of this movie. What pissed me off the most is a person that I know (wouldn't call him a friend) literally hosted a Saltburn-themed party when he reeks of privilege and has grown surrounded by wealth. Embarrassing. TikTok made it out as if Jacob and Barry would be ******* each other in the bath tub. Some people have a such low threshold of what is considered shocking or disturbing. Eating a cum-filled peach or drinking bathtub cum water is none of that. 1 1
Pendulum Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Miss Fennel could have taken an idea or two from Salò if she really wanted to venture into the homoerotic shocking territory. Yum.
Dolce Vita Posted January 6 Posted January 6 the way everyone on my uni course is talking about this film rn
montacelo Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Yeah… I did not like whatever that was. Something was off about the whole thing especially the way most characters were written. 2/5
