Bey'Knight Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 Finally got to watch this. Emerald thinks we’ll be rooting for Oliver by the end of she did her job right. I’m sorry but y feelings towards Oliver couldn’t be more antithetical. I think Ripley landed the ending better because we know his next crime was coming at a very personal cost to him. Oliver never earns that pathos. I also struggle with Elspeth, the last one standing from this old money historic family has no one else in her life in her sunset years. Still, I will always appreciate a director who chooses to tell daring provocative original stories esp after a ceremonious debut. I’m sure she had the likes of Netflix n Disney at her door trying to rope her into remaking some trite piece of existing IP (we may never get an original telling from Gerwig again) . I hope she continues to make bold and audacious choices. PS: Selfishly, wish she’d leaned more into the homoeroticism but I understand it wouldn’t fit with the period and gothic vibes in the throughline. Just wanted more reason to swoon over Lord Elordi tbh. 2

Hector Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 #2 on Prime Video in the US & the #1 movie. Emerald, Barry, and Rosamund did that, I fear Watched it a second time last night and the movie still holds up, particularly that Murder On The Dancefloor scene living rent free in my head. 1
Delicate Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 Yeah this is visually pleasing but let's not pretend it’s some genius masterpiece of art Spoiler It's basically a copy and paste of The Servant (1963) and Parasite. Barry tried his best but somehow I feel his character was poorly written like what was exactly his motivation? And the last scene was sooo dumb and lowkey ruined the movie for me.
bearman Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 It's a very enjoyable and very beautiful shot movie.
shark_heather Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 Any info on how can i watch it in Germany or at least online ?

katara Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 It was cute but they should have explained his motiovations better / more 1
Whis Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 Just watched this. Loved the visuals, the music and the ending!
ThinkLater Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 This was boring as hell and the lead is.. let's just say quite unattractive 1 1

I see the similarities. I see some touch of Talented Mr. Ripley here too. Spoiler I would say what sets this apart is Oliver’s obsession with Felix. That’s not in The Servant and Parasite which is more about class dynamics. This is as much about his obsession for Felix as it is about eating the rich. Edited December 24, 2023 by harwee
Elusive Chanteuse Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 Not sure what to make of this film honestly but don't hate it. Its amazing what good acting can do
Dark Phoenix Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 Why did this felt rushed but long at the same time? Also I can decide if Barry is cute or just unattractive and miscast? Or maybe Elordi was the one miscasted? Jacob seemed like a child next to him and also older. Also I kinda enjoyed more the first 30min at the school? Ewan Mitchell was one of the few interesting characters and he’s gone after that and then also Carey/Pamela and she’s gone, it made them felt like porn cameos for the sake of it. I did not like the way Oliver just switches from being naive and dumb into a serial killer and manipulating everyone? Also they had a great opportunity when Felix found out about his family and it felt lazy that Oliver kept getting away over and over and I was ready for this to end when the party started and it kept going, also the crotch shots and the finale felt like too much, like yeah they were sexy but in the same way that people criticize the male gaze for doing butt shots here those shots felt like objectifying the character, it felt weird. Also why Emerald has a fixation with the 00s or like 2006?? In PYW there’s a big 00s nostalgia with Stars Are Blind (2006)playing a big role and here we are shown that the film occurs in 2006 (without a main reason to place the movie in that year), maybe because Emerald was 21 in that year and she has nostalgia for those years. TLDR; The Crown meets Gossip Girl and Cruel Intentions.
Psycho Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 Why was Tiktok acting like this was traumatizing But yes, it's good
Daddy Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 Tried to watch it yesterday with a friend but we were too chatty so we put on something else. Gonna watch it tomorrow, just to see Carey and Rosamund together again. Loved them ever since I saw them in An Education from 2009. Also a stunning movie, very recommended!!!

It’s refreshing to see a movie that’s not a remake/sequel/spin-off etc. but it still was a movie I’ve seen before. it was an enjoyable watch and Rosamund Pike really knows how to entertain an audience and steal a scene….but the storyline was nothing we have never seen before. there was also a severe lack of character fullness and development. WEEKND Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 I liked Farleigh a mean cu next Tuesday but a hot one 1
touch Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 It's a good (with a brilliant cinematography) movie, and somehow I'd say it's a bit rushed even tho it lasts for 2 hours because I couldn't keep up with all the twists at the end Spoiler That shot of the sister in the bathtub and the mother with the respirator 1
