Antisocialites Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 (edited) Margot ain't the best actress out there but when she's good she's reaaaally good. she surprised me a lot in Barbie. Edited July 29, 2023 by Antisocialites
SharonStone Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Good comparison, both Oscar-nominated actresses who have headlined box office hits (well, Margot finally did after a decade+ of bombs) Gaga has the advantage of winning 2 Golden Globes, 2 Critics Choice Awards, a Bafta and 13 Grammys from her legendary music career on top of it solidifying her position as the most talented and versatile artist of this century in both industries in Hollywood but yeah… Anyway, ATRL's Razzied faves who’ve tried and failed to act are not allowed in the convo! All your faves wanna be actresses, they just can't cuz they can barely do their day job of singing even with autotune and AI let alone be onscreen for 2 hours with nothing to hide behind. As I said before, this thread is about actually talented artists, in this case the legendary Lady Gaga who’s versatility to succeed in both industries with both acclaim and commercial success, stays unmatched this century. 7 1 3

Marla Singer Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 The Academy Award and Golden Globe winner, of course. The other one was a decent soap actress. 1 4
Lovett Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Margot's a fantastically talented actress, with great range. Gaga pales in comparison, imo. 1 1

LatinFreak Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 I only see one ACTRESS in that poll. Miss Robbie it is...
ariananext Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 I'm not the best at spotting a great actress but you can tell a bad one from miles away. Gaga wasn't bad bad in ASIB but House of Gucci was laughable (the whole movie). 3 2
MonsterTown Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Gaga is in her 2nd lead movie, i think this isn't a fair comparison right? since some new margot stans start to name movieS....bc they just like it... but Oscar nominee Lady Gaga is doing fine, even doing her 3rd lead role, and even Margot herself respect her... i would say Lady Gaga bc, she is in her in 2nd/3rd lead movie doing 3 different and opposites roles doing it successfully...the box office is there, the hype is there, the acclaim is present allowing gaga to jump into a 1 Billon Dollar movie and that's because she is a good actress. Gaga took a risk doing the movies she is doing and shows versatility, on the other hand people is waiting for lady gaga harley quinn, not joker 2 and harley quinn lady gaga. 2 2

Wolf of Wall Street: 400M Tarzan: 360M (similar #s to ASIB) Suicide Squad: 750M OUATIH: 380M Birds of Prey: 205M (considered a flop but brought in more than HOG) Even her lower budget productions (I Tonya, Bombshell, Mary Queen of Scotts) brought in 2-3x their budget in revenue at the box office OT: Margot duh. 1 1

House or Gucci did very well especially considering the circumstances of it's release(covid was still a thing and it was rated r) and a sizable portion of the people who saw it said lady Gaga was a huge factor in their seeing it proving she's a draw 2
HEAVYONIT Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Margot, because her primary profession is being an actress…so it’s not overtly surprising.

There were a bunch of movies released during COVID that performed poorly or had average box office results, however nobody labels them as box office hits by meticulously analyzing the box office gross using highly specific criteria to make them appear successful. There's just no way House of Gucci made any money grossing $150M from a $75M budget. 1

Not this the movie's success was literally noted as an outlier during what was a difficult time for BO by almost every single analyst and industry publication, ranging from Forbes to Variety, THR, Deadline and even the usual trackers on Twitter. Forbes Quote Lady Gaga is herself a butts-in-seats movie star, as shown both by Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born (the arguable centerpiece of Warner Bros.’ banner 2018 slate which earned $424 million on a $40 million budget) and Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci (a 2.5-hour true crime melodrama which earned $75 million domestic and $151 million worldwide in late 2021 as every other adult-skewing drama dropped dead theatrically). THR Quote Winners House of Gucci (Nov. 24) Directed by Ridley Scott, the MGM film scored a five-day opening of $21.8 million, including $14.2 million for Thanksgiving weekend, both record numbers for an adult drama in the pandemic era. Analysts say star Lady Gaga succeeded in luring younger adults. Nearly half of ticket buyers, or 45 percent, were between the ages of 18 and 34, while 34 percent were 45 and older. Deadline Quote Meanwhile, despite headlines about the Omicron virus, adults finally found their way to the cinema with United Artists Releasing-MGM’s House of Gucci building the best opening for a drama in the last two years at the box office. Now whom are we supposed to believe? These people whose bread-and-butter is to crunch numbers every week and observe industry patterns and trends or ATRL users with clearly no knowledge of how box office comps work? 4 1
