I don’t remember the details, but she revealed in 2021 that Interscope spent way more money on her back in The Fool era than was in her contract and since the album wasn’t very successful they ended up putting her in half a million dollar debt. She was fighting to leave and she did, but she never got a penny from her royalties, cause everything her music earns goes to pay the Interscope debt

On top of what BZ said, she apparently underwent some sort of SA at the hands of a producer that Interscope forced her to work with, so that's another reason why she got shelved until it was all settled (she ultimately got dropped but had to sign an NDA).
