It’s obviously Folklore and that will be even more clear a week from now when August season starts :giraffe:

Taylor's total units sold is HEAVILY U.S. adjacent like lets be serious :rip:

A breakdown of those 10M units from chartmasters or whoever else would be great to show how the units are compiled. Because while Taylor is undoubtedly huge and a big seller, there's just no explanation for the certifications to be so mismatched with the units sold. Take for instance other female eras from around that period:

Even in cases like Billie where places like the U.S. are undercertified, the certs more or less correspond with the era moving units. How on earth Folklore pushed over 10M units worldwide with just two multi-plat certs is not normal at all.

So Folklore hasn't crossed 5M in a market where Taylor moves over 70% of her units, has only been certified multi-platinum in two countries, but has somehow already crossed 10M worldwide? Like how is that math adding up, where are over 5M units coming from?

Except the countries with automatic certification Taylor team doesn't certify at all and barely does if any

These stats show HTE is bigger than Midnights but it's not in any way

So again you can say whatever you want atp

According to chartmasters, it did. 1989 also went from 22M to nearly 27M from mid 2022- present. I’m struggling to understand where the sales are coming from. This applies to everyone’s sales at chartmasters. The lack of transparency is insane:redface:

Okay, I misunderstood. Sorry about that. But the U.K. is not the only market that automatically certifies. Midnights already has more multi-platinum certifications for instance (which correspond to its units sold) than Folklore despite Folklore allegedly moving double the units. Do you understand why I'm questioning the numbers. Like of course Taylor is a huge seller and the best selling artist right now by far, but those stats for Folklore are beyond fishy.

If they gave a breakdown of these units the same way they used to give with their pure sales then it would make them more credible. Like based off this Taylor sold 10M units from only two old albums in one year alone. How does any of that make sense?

Because Taylor is very popular in places where certifications don't exist and her certifications aren't updated anyway. Artists that are popular in mainland Europe get a lot of certifications because of the number of countries with certs there and that has always been Taylor weakest market relatively.

They are based on streaming. It's mostly Spotify which are public. There's nothing "fishy" about it. It's just thta Folklore is still doing almost 9M+ streams daily on Spotify alone right now and that translates to a lot of units globally.

Taylor sales were not updated in 2022 before Midnights. The last update before that is Red TV release in 2021.

Her streams are crazy but not crazy enough to be moving 5-7M album units per album in a year, especially when it doesn’t coincide with her worldwide certifications.

Europe, Latin America, and North America still has the most Spotify and AM music users by FAR. So I'd love to see the streaming numbers and sources from these markets that lack the tracking companies. What's being asked for is credible sources where y'all are pulling these numbers from, nothing else.

She didn't move 5M/7M per album in a year given that her catalog wasn't updated by CM in mid 2022.

The automatic updates for streams were only added recently.

You can try and check the formula yourself and you'll find that these are most just Spotify streams.

In Folklore case there was the vinyl release for the live version in 2023.

What's the point exactly?

We know how much streams Taylor and Folklore are getting globally. CM is just translating that into sps units like they do for all artists.

Certifications are meaningless in countries where they are not automatic. Even in the US Taylor albums are very undercertified.

Update them daily for everyone based on the albums daily streams*.

So if Rihanna's daily streams aren't that good compared to Taylor's that's not a Chartmasters issue.
