The barrier to entry was way higher. You can complain about Roar pulling 9.9M units in 2013 alone but do note up to this point, Katy had NO other hit eating her numbers, Unconditionally was floundering below the Top 10, Walking on Air was just a promo single and Dark Horse wasn't the full fledged monster it was until it was sent to radio December 2013 and started destroying the format January 2014. By early November Shake It Off was already poised to lose out on numbers because Blank Space was gaining fast momentum, it went #1 in 3 weeks from release. Katy did not get that disadvantage. And even if you can refute that train of thought, the point is so many other megahits like We Found Love have all failed to hit the IFPI Top 10. To discredit my opinion would be to also imply these songs are not monster hits would be implying that We Found Love isn't the biggest hit of Rihanna's career (which, it objectively is). And even if we say SIO isn't as big as those other songs, then based on your logic, Blank Space IS the song that's as big as those because your whole argument rests on being on the IFPI Top 10 (it was #8) Both Roar and SIO were released in August. Roar made it to #5, not just top 10. Shake It Off never made it to top 10. As It Was was #1 of 2022 and Flowers will probably be #1 of 2023. Being #8 in 2015 for Blank Space isn't the flex you think it is. You can argue with IFPI especially about Rihanna.

Bonicap Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 I love this threads and I love even more the fact that they remain open. I love to see the suffering and frustration. SEETHE.
Taylor fanboy Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Miley and Harry doesn’t have monster hit albums like Taylor Swift. Why? 2 1
Selegend Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 (edited) As It Was truly may be bigger than any Taylor song. But even with Flowers record-breaking status, we can't confirm that it's bigger than hits like Blank Space or Shake It Off. Spotify WW today: #13 Flowers (from january 2023): 3.173.494 #15 As It Was (from april 2022): 3.119.843 their longevity are not the same. As It Was may be, but Blank Space and Shake It Off had (and have) MASSIVE stats on Youtube, the biggest streaming platform in 2014. They're probably bigger or as big as Flowers. byzantium Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Oh poor Taylor. I guess she will need to be happy with having 4 albums in the top 10, 2 songs in the top 10, and the top grossing tour of all time.
