Carly Rae Jepsen - 'The Loveliest Time'

Loneliest Time was better, I am missing the gentle direction on here she explored with bends/go find yourself or whatever/keep away/anxious. Those were the album highlights and none of that is present here. Well I guess she tried to serve it with Kollage but it's not clicking. Kamikaze and Psychedelic Switch are nice upbeat bops at least.

Everything!

She is an artist who dares to venture beyond just what is expected of her and who genuinely loves playing around with new things. She doesn't repeat herself just for the sake of it, when she does it is because she wants to and not because she is desperate to chase a golden goose from the past like others, she is aware that lighting never strikes twice. It is funny to me because from everything we know of her she couldn't care less about where her songs charted, how they performed overall or how they were received.

Her not being a big commercial artist is a gift to her actually. The huge success she reached with Call Me Maybe secured her checks for the rest of her life, Emotion allowed her to unlock new ground within critics circles and gave her a dedicated fanbase who trusts her artistic direction. She has full creative freedom to pursue whatever direction she wants, the ability to tour her work and sell out decently sized venues without any of the added pressure & the media lens of being a superstar. The life any artist aspires to have.

On top of all of that she seems like such a genuine and lovely person, all of which is translated in her music as well.

I will gladly take an Anything to Be With You with each album if it meant the rest was on this level of greatness.

Oh, this is amazing. I was a little bit let down by Loneliest Time but on first listen I enjoyed this from beginning to end.

Can't wait to get more familiar with this album.

It's honestly one of her bests it's out there it's quirky it's funky very tropical in an organic way

Ot: this album Is her best, it's perfect everything comes together, it's so funky and groovy. She's giving authentic warm disco

This is her first project where I’m actually surprised with it’s direction, it sounds absolutely nothing like anything she’s done before and I loved every second of it

Kollege is too good like wth?

so far it sounds like another magnum opus from miss Jepsen.

I love the indie-tinged production from her more alt. collaborators.

I honestly think her biggest strength is she's incredibly open to revisiting past lyrics and concepts. Like sooo many artists can barely even stand to look back to their album from a year or two ago without hating everything they've ever made, but we're in 2023 and Carly is STILL repurposing lyrics and ideas from before Call Me Maybe even existed.

It means we don't necessarily ever get the huge bold singular artistic statements of a body of work that some of her peers do. But feels silly to complain when she's churning out such high quality material at such a fast rate.

So Right is such a bland title and the song turned out amazing somehow

Was there ever any confirmed songs for that, other than the Eternal Summer track? The title track alone sounds insane.

After first listen I liked everything except Aeroplanes & Weekend Love. My favs were Psychedelic Switch, Come Over, After Last Night, Kamikaze & Put It To Rest (This one caught me by surprise :jonny5:). A very solid project! As I've seen some people say, the tracklist could be better. ALN or PS should've been the opening track

Not liking this as much as Loneliest Time on initial listen.

Just found this!!!

I feel like a lot of the songs from both albums are sister songs in some ways:

- Aeroplanes - Far Away (sound wise & both track #4)

- Shadow - Bends (sound wise & both track #7)

- So Right - So Nice (title wise & both track #9)

- Come Over - Bad Thing Twice (sound wise & both track #10)

Just sound-wise

- After Last Night - Shooting Star

- Psychedelic Switch - The Loneliest Time

- Weekend Love - Western Wind

Kamikaze is cute but so far I *much* prefer the sound of her last album.

where is it??

What is the actual track order? I've been listening to it in the order based off Wiki/the crossword, but the download I have has a completely different track order. :lakitu: Would love some clarity if anyone actually knows haha.

This album has some truly incredible songs on it.

Stand-outs on first listen are Kollage, So Right, Shadow, Psychedelic Switch, Put It to Rest and Stadium Love.
