What are you talking about? This song is literally the number one song in the world lol. It’s an undeniable smash hit. Oops didn’t even go top 5 and this is predicted to debut at #1. Also why tf should she have dropped it a year ago? She was still working on this album and touring for SOUR. It wouldn’t have made any sense at all. Mind you, olivia actuakly writes her music. Britney just recited anything that these swedish pop producers wrote down which made it possible for her to release her sophomore lead so fast.

Serving something new in your 2nd era/ after your peak rarely works and usually causes a big decline - Alanis, Avril, Billie, P!nk, etc 

 

It makes completely sense that she continued on with a similar sound like Adele and Britney did.
