Atp, the only way for actual change to occur is for a partisan movement/uprising against the elite. The national conversation really needs to be refocused to class and corporatism. Progressives need to use targeted social media work to target those on the other side. There are a lot of Repubs (specifically those in the working and lower classes) that would support progressive policies if they were communicated through populism. Frame it as Americans taking back their country from big corps and the elites.

Obviously a pipe dream and we're all gonna get f*cked sideways. :gaycat6:

Congress can do this. They won’t. None of the squad who supported student debt relief wrote a bill to make it do. They just complained and said Biden can do it.

This sucks for everyone who was eligible for relief.

This will be too obviously, you need a secret invasion, think Illuminati. You need people who love change more than power. A lot of politicians start with good intent but get swayed by dollar signs and forget why they're in office.

I can’t say I’m surprised by the block.
The current day SCOTUS is nothing more than an unelected Republican legislative branch.

I think the last debt ceiling negotiation pushed back the resumption of payments until October 1st for some reason. Don’t remember what the rationale was but it’s seemingly the last time that’s going to happen unless Biden rises to the occasion and pulls some truly miraculous Hail Mary pass

None of those are “squad” members.

AOC was a cosponsor on at least one of those - just because she’s not the primary sponsor doesn’t mean she’s just complaining and not taking action.

Perched for Biden’s address to the nation this afternoon. This will be good.

Good. Overpaying for unnecessary education has become such an epidemic in the United States. All you need to be successful is a solid education (which you can get from a much cheaper state school), real-world experience, and drive. Other people’s mistakes/misunderstandings of what you need to extract from a college education shouldn’t be a federally controlled, financial responsibility for taxpayers

Shut the **** up

The billing cycle starts September 1st, so interest begins accruing. The first bills will be issued with a due date of October 1st.

There is no difference between a centrist Democrat and a Republican.

The fact that these APPOINTED for LIFE, not elected, 6 individuals hold so much power over this country is ******* ridiculous. I grew up learning that we had a system of checks and balances between the 3 branches of government. Who is checking the judicial branch???? Literally who????

Ironically this power (judicial review, deciding if something is constitutional or not) is a power the Supreme Court granted itself. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say the Supreme Court has the final say but tradition has allowed it to continue.

Theoretically Congress has the power to check the Supreme Court by passing new constitutional amendments, but that will never happen under the current requirements needed. They can also impeach justices, but again... not happening.

People can scream "go VOTE!" but even that won't do much while voter suppression still exists and there are a large number of Democrats scared of "radical" change. I really don't see these changings without a complete revolution tbh.

Well since it is now permissible for businesses to refuse services to gays maybe we can convince the loaners to reject loan payments from the gays.

Can confirm, I'm moving back in with roommates because I won't be able to afford living on my own once payments restart. :gaycat6:
