Those Moana numbers are so embarrassing

I hope everyone seeing it looks forward to a future of AI slop because they clearly have no standards (or are being duped)

go wicked!

It's a movie for 5 year olds relax :hoetenks:

call it A.I. slop is a insult to the hundreds of artist and creatives that made it. I'd get this if it was like some Adult Drama smashing… but it's a Disney kids movie. The over dramatics… way better then Light year and the flops Disney and Pixar made in the last 2 years

Agreed with this part but calling it a "movie for 5 years old" is almost as insulting to those very people as if their effort and artistic merit mainly targets and satisfies people without developed frontal lobes :toofunny3: there's a way to defend animated media and art without having to resort to the tired "it's a kids movie anyway" narrative.

Anyway, didn't really care for the movie but I LOVE seeing Disney win, it never fails to make the most annoying collection of people online comprised of anti-woke right wingers, tankies, cartoon and anime virgins and cinephiles heat up in anger

There is nothing insulting about calling it movie for 5 year olds cuz that's literally its main demographic🤷‍♀️

I didn't call it AI slop. I said that's what's in our future because disneys standard slipped here as they turned an outsourced cheapened Disney+ show into a sequel for shareholders. Corners were cut and they were rewarded, so they will continue to cut them.

The hundreds of artists and creatives you speak of were also hurt by this, as the outsourcing and shift of plans means they were underpaid, crunched, and lack any usual long term financial incentives for the film.

Moana expected to hit a Billion in 2 weekends too:gaycat6:

Disney really made 2 Frozen sized Phenomenon this year.

Gladiator doing good numbers, although I expected more. I guess it got overshadowed by Wicked and Moana.

Moana is insane

Wicked is doing great too, absolutely deserved.

Avengers: Endgame was once the highest grossing movie of all time. Deadpool 3 made over a billion dollars just this year. AI slop is exactly what audiences have been telling studios they want, since forever. Remember lion king 2019?

You can be a fan of Wicked without pretending that a movie you happen to dislike is the end of cinema. (Maybe not?) Give me a break.

It's bad news for animation fans and lowers the bar for Disney. I didn't say it's the end of cinema lol.

i also only mentioned wicked because it's half of the focus of OP, my opinion on Moana has nothing to do with it???

@family.guy123 good point with the edit tho, this isn't new for Disney and the live action remakes are equally terrible but don't spell the end of original content.

Wicked's hold is very impressive, means word of mouth is really, really good  should be on track of beating Wonka by a good margin now despite bigger competition.

Tbh Wicked is moving slower than I thought.

It's highly acclaimed, in many of year end best list, enormous hype and word of mouth, marketing was massive MASSIVE.

Is 1B still possible? Def one of the most deserving.

I think it will end around $650M ish. Maybe if they keep it in theaters throughout Christmas season it could have a bigger bump since people are off school and work. But idk about 1B. Maybe 700M range

So interesting to see Wicked fall… flat(?) in international markets. The IP is of course massively popular + known by literally everyone in the US (and UK), but I guess since it is a Broadway/West End staple, its' fame kind of ends there? I think the only comparable would be Mamma Mia, but that had ABBA (and the Meryl/Brosnan duo?) carrying it to an international phenomenon

Sonic 3 will easily outgross 1&2. Bet they already got ground on a 4th one

Great for Sonic. Hopefully, the kiddies and nerds flood to the theaters during the break.

It's honestly incredible how movie theaters were able to overcome COVID. We're essentially back to 2019 box office scores.

Let's see what Captain America and Superman pull off next year :crown:

Yeah the numbers don't lie. This time last year Disney was at an all time low. And now they are back on top. Marvel, Pixar, and Walt Disney are all having record smashing success. And I think lilo and stitch is gonna be way bigger than people think. Incredibles 3, Frozen 3, and Toy Story 5 probably gonna clear 1 billion
