With the first one it at least made sense since she had a significant role + did part of the soundtrack.

True, but Disney is king of walkups and TLK (2019) made over a billion. Sonic 2 only made $400 million so it’s a bit shocking to the average person how poorly Mufasa is doing

No one even knows this is a thing, I'm surprised it's opening with even that much. The promo feels nonexistent

Not surprising. Nobody liked that first one with the accurate animations. Yes it made a billion but its legacy is non-existing. I'm happy to see this doing so bad cause nobody needs nor wants this and Disney needs another wake up call.

Neither had noteworthy presales (both were actually widely predicted for similar $40-50m range opening 2 weeks ago) it's after the previews (not the same thing) yesterday that it became clear Sonic came swinging and Mufasa underperformed big time.

ngl i had no idea another lion king movie was coming until fairly recently. that, and beyonce's kinda going through a hate train right now so im not shocked it's doing bad.
