Gossip_Boy Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 (edited) The Sunday drop for Barbie is unreal. I don’t think i’ve ever seen that in blockbuster movies. Couldn’t have happened to a most deserving movie. Edited July 24, 2023 by Gossip_Boy 1

Especially in this climate with all the factors counted such as the competition, the strike and the China's market shift which was essential for this piece? So it sounds like we agree that there was no halo effect from Top Gun: Maverick on the new Mission: Impossible.

Any studio or marketing executive could tell you that. The fact that Tom Cruise is not only coming off the biggest hit of his career, but also spent the past year hyping the return to movie theaters, and yet his latest film is doing less business than its predecessor, is a minor disaster.

Maybe I am more accurate with expectations, I guess.
BNF91 Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Spillover from demand and capacity issues. Only reserved for the biggest box office hits. When everything is so sold out that people just keep booking the next possible available tickets. Saw the same thing happen with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Jurassic World, Black Panther.. Btw Barbie's domestic Monday is looking like $23-25M So much sellouts and spillover, that's less than -50% from Sunday. 5
harwee Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 SMASH!! So happy for Margot. And Ryan too. He deserves a huge hit.
ALA Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 This is kinda shocking, of all movies hoping for a Coco level performance 4
BNF91 Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Yeah, $1B is pretty much locked. Don't see how it fails to reach it. Will be at $650-700M by Sunday already. 1

Yeah, i was just thinking that. There's no way it doesn't reach 1B at this point, right? It had an explosive debut and it's already showing stability.

BNF91 Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Chinese total gross forecast has gone from $9.7M to $43.5M in the past 5 days thanks to the WOM increases and holds. Maybe it can do $50M+ there, a huge turnaround. Curious if OS weekend saw an increase like domestic. 1
Bethenny Frankel Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Dua's Barbie being a smash, we love to see it 2
