Oppenheimer would've flopped without Barbie that's for sure.

Christopher Nolan is one of the rare directors in Hollywood that can get people to the theaters. Let’s NOT. Both films ate and both films are thriving, let’s celebrate that :clap3:

Hopefully Barbie 2 will do the same.

Sunday isn’t even over how do they pull these numbers?

It's called "estimations". Final numbers aren't out until Tuesday.

Oppenheimer is acclaimed by both critics and audiences so it would have done fine regardless.

Well that makes more sense, though it seems they’re reporting that 155M number definitively now

The movie would've done 50M max without the virality of the Barbie meme. Let's NOT.

40M-50M is still very good for Nolan, he's got a strong loyal fanbase.

On the other hand Barbie gained very little from the association with Openheimer, it was goin to do numbers on the level of Mario Bros no matter what, even if it was critically panned. The marketing and hype was so meticulously well handled and it's a massive brand like Mario.

Nolan’s movies at the box office are famous for having legs during their box office runs. It’s got an “A” cinemascore from audiences, meaning it’s bound to have great WOM and be a success. Outside of “tenet” (which came during the height of the pandemic) all of Nolan’s movies were grossing $500 million+ at the box office since “the prestige”.

The man gets butts in theaters. Again, let’s noT

Barbie is the first movie I’ve seen in the cinema in ages and I went only because of Dua, in conclusion - Dua’s Barbie :clap3:

Does that budget include marketing cost?

They have 60+ year of legacy to pull from, and I can see a massive box office universe with several films - especially after the this weekend’s opening.

The 2000's Barbie Princess films maybe? That was literally the era catapulted the brand :jonny3:

OT: Women and Gays won :clap3:

I came here to ask this. Feels like the promo for this movie costs more than the actual movie.

i think it doesn't. Read an article the movie won't break even until it grosses over $300M. (which is gonna happen easily). The movie itself wasn't as expensive as other's because of the lack of CGI and using more traditional decors (which apparently, are way less expensive).
