Rough numbers for Renaissance. I'm especially shocked how frontloaded it was. How did it come in so far below projections?

Will families go see them though if they’re already available no extra cost on D+?

I can see on both sides reasons for how this could work / backfire, will be interesting to see how this turns out

To be fair, studios rerelease older films in theaters when they feel like it.

This isn't quite that, but I could see some interest

Aquaman's preview being lower. :rip:

I guess Superhero fatigue is really here. :santa:

Heard something about a pay it forward system for the colour purple? I hope it slays the BO this upcoming holiday season

Madame Jolie confirmed Maleficent 3.

I wonder if Marvel seriously chose to quietly scrap The Eternals because NO follow up mentions the events of that movie at all, and now it appears they aren't even scheduling any Eternals shoots with her :rip:

Somewhere out there Mena Massoud just let out the biggest cry upon reading the Maleficent 3 announcement

They should’ve saw the writing on the wall for these DC movies the second Shazam tanked. Nobody cares.

Oh GODzilla

I expect Godzilla to have smaller than usual Friday jumps. It seems to play well during weekdays and it has to make up for that ridiculously good Monday hold somewhere. Expect like $6-7M for the weekend. Still fantastic for live action Japanese film.

Boy and the Heron should win the weekend with $11M or so. Hunger Games hanging around at #2 ($8M?) and Renaissance will tumble hard, like -70% ($6M)

Hoping that Godzilla overperforms and we got a foreign top 2 at the box office, that'd be fascinating

this thread's title isn't really gonna age that well after the huge incoming drop but the money they were gonna get was gotten so eh

Wonka surprisingly starting to grow in some of the countries it’s released in due to strong WOM. I can see it performing like Puss in Boots did last year and having a solid week to week performance.

Yeah Wonka is doing really well in a few markets in Europe. It's only having a limited international release this weekend (37 markets) but it's looking like it could reach $40M from this weekend alone.

$10M UK

$5M Spain

$4M Germany

$3.5M Japan (not bad)

Wonka doing... good? Wow 2023 Box Office is such a rollercoaster.

The Colour Purple is coming to smash.. presales for Christmas opening day are pretty bonkers and theatres are adding showtimes.

It could potentially do $10M+ opening day.

So Renaissance is looking like the Marvels of concert docs. What happened? The tour was a hit!

Where is Wish? Wasn't it supposed to have Elemntal's legs? :emofish:

Taylor also has to pay a director their cut and a whole other production company (Silent House)... so it will all equal out in the end.

With the tragic second weekend numbers of Renaissance Film, I doubt it will equal out in the end.

90s metascore & #1 in first wide release weekend

2023 - the boy and the heron

2017 - dunkirk

2013 - gravity

early 2013 - zero dark thirty

2010 - social network

toy story 3

These are from the last 15 years when the best picture category expanded; I wonder if Miyazaki has a nonzero chance of pulling through.

Wish STILL hasn't hit $50M domestic even after it's 3rd weekend. Will probably end at like $60M final.

Absolute disaster.

Wonka starts very strong this weekend with $43.2M from just 37 international markets. UK with a huge $11M debut. This will have very nice legs through to the new year.
