Meanwhile Zootopia 2, Frozen 3 and Toy Story 5 got greenlight If they're using that argument to not make more original movies might as well close the entire studio because their beloved IP films are bombing too. Original movies can flop (and they will) but that's not the biggest problem. The real issue here is rebooting and remaking the same sh+t over and over again. The public is catching up to that and it's only gonna get worse for Hollywood. Like why in the hell are James Gunn and DC making a new Batman movie with The Flash director when Pattinson's Batman already exists? Or why are they remaking freaking VERTIGO? They're SO lost.
Konril Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 $295 Million production budget? Gonna bomb harder than The Flash then.

It's as tired of an IP'd movie as all the other ones mentioned, and less so than Elemental, which is an actual original movie. Again, when was the last Super Mario movie? People know the Super Mario Brothers, duh. But it hasn’t been touched in forever and had opportunity for new audiences because of that. This was the 10th F&F, 7th Transformers, 5th Jones (after 15 years and no apparent demand for another), the 100th superhero film. And again, Elemental was nothing new at all. Making the characters elements and calling it something other than Inside Out 2 / Soul 2 doesn’t make it original. 1
Dark Phoenix Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 Streaming really became a trap and came back to bite them in the a$$ Audience behavior changed and is now trained to wait 2-3 months to stream lesser films and will only go out for big event films with great reviews, in before theater chains start crying about not having money and blame the studios for the lazy productions. Anyway I’m still going to see Indy, Elemental meh I’ll wait for Disney+, FX and Flash were entertaining and TLM was meh, I could have waited for D+ but fell for the hype train.

People aren't tired of sequels or the endless recycling of IPs, and the Mario movie is only proof of that. When the last Mario movie came out is inconsequential; it's merely another well-known franchise that's been at the forefront of the videogame industry for decades now. And saying that Elemental isn't new is not factual. It literally has nothing to do with either Soul or Inside Out. We can def talk about how unoriginal of an idea it is, but Elemental as an IP is new. 1

Not to mention it will be a huge on Disney+ Exactly. It’s still the highest grossing movie with a black woman as lead and that is an amazing accomplishment. 500 million and counting is not bad at all for a relatively new actress.

JustHoran Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 (edited) People are sick of these lazy reboots and sequels that aren't needed. Meanwhile, Disney scraps Aladdin 2 which was going to have a new original story Edited June 28, 2023 by JustHoran
Bacardo Royale Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 Mess I was gonna go watch this movie, I dont wanna waste my money if its bad
Desire Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 I bet there are Indiana stans but literally no one asked for this so i am not surprised. imagine my shock 4 months ago when I was in the theaters and the trailer for this popped up. seemed boring then and seems boring now. I'll probably watch it on streaming when I have nothing else to do but I'm not running to pay and watch it
barbiegrande Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 (edited) Audiences are tired of the same **** over and over again. At least Mario, while basic, felt new. Disney live actions, Marvel, DC, Star Wars, it’s all A CHOP. Get these washed hoes OUTTA here Edited June 28, 2023 by barbiegrande

People are hip to Pixar’s years of emotional manipulation now and they know it will be on streaming eventually Disney is general is a cooked turkey.

What I don't get is why there's a narrative to spin this movie's performance as a good thing? When by all measures this is a disappointing result. This was supposed to be a billion dollar movie. Its gonna barely make its money back. Mind you it's gross so far is 501 million and it needs 625 million to break even. 1 1

Oh okay, I don't understand a lot about movie sales But if it has a 300M budget, shouldn't it just need 300M in sales to break even?

There's a lot of hidden factors, the usual assumed amount is around 2.3-25x amount of the budget of the movie due to marketing and release. Especially for big-budget Disney movies
Miles. Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 Consumers' habits have changed. Gen Z doesn't go to the movies period, and millennials stopped going to the theatre after COVID. The only people who still do go are parents with their kids (Mario + Marvel success) and Gen X (Top Gun success). Everyone else is content to wait the three months for all these films to come out on streaming. I used to go to the movies once a month ish before the pandemic, but now I haven't been since Free Guy (summer 2021). And with these specific examples in the OP, NOBODY wanted these movies 1
