I mean, not one of the movies in the OP is good. So it makes sense they are flopping. At least Mario did something fresh and look, that was a success.

What the **** was fresh in Mario :rip: it was just another nostalgia bait mid ass movie that succeeded because it didn't offend anyone politically :rip:  All the other movies were cancelled by conservatives for POC leads or Feminism + were also terrible

TLM has more than broken even. People say it’s a flop because it didn’t gross 1B which is very unrealistic. Not to mention it will be a huge on Disney+

500 million off of (reported) 250M budget and 140M marketing is not breaking even in the theatrical space in any world :toofunny3:

People are tired to the same movies and franchises over and over.

In the today Time article about Barbie the mattel CEO says an interesting thing about involving Greta Gerwig "an artist is a risk but it's the best way to try to reach a real impact in the culture".

Oppenhaimer, Barbie and also Dune will be biggest successes so this prove i even if not completely new things (barbie and dune) the key even for the blockbusters is personality. Part of the success of these movies is they are made by Nolan, Gerwig and Villenueve and this makes them interesting. It's not anymore the time of just ips but they need to be connected to interesting names again. Elvis was a success too and it wasn't just another Elvis movie but the "brand" of its director was huge part at selling the movie.

Challengers and Poor things will probably box office surprises  and they are awaited also because of their authors. It's time to invest again on the artists, then you can work with them even for ips and more commercial movies but you can't build everything only on brands, it's time to have the cinema back. This risk it's the only way to beat the platforms.

It's kinda funny to see some of you say audiences are tired of regurgitated trash content when the Mario movie is the most successful film of the year. :rip:

Exactly :rip: All the movies this year are having Mid off except Spiderverse

Mario smashed because it’s a new franchise that was a no brainer to adapt to the big screen. Nostalgia still works. The other movies have lost that novelty nostalgia once they go past multiple entries. Let’s see how the 4th or 5th Mario movie will do in the future tho, it’ll probably won’t be as big

It is new in the sense that we had 500 Disney classic remakes and superhero movies lately, but we didn't have a movie based in that realm for a long time. It's just different enough.

I’m sorry but Mr Ford at his age has no business jumping out of airplanes and fighting vilains

it simply isn’t realistic

they should have introduced a long lost son or daughter to take on the mantle because yes he is likeable but this movie doesn’t make sense

Why to release so many potential hit movies so close each other when Jan-Mar was so dead movie-wise?
