Bhabylon Posted April 28 Posted April 28 This movie gagged me loved it, favorite of the year so far 1
X~MoviePoP Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Zendayas acting is great in the right role. She won 2 emmys for a reason. Its the range i think she may lack.
TaylorNation Posted April 28 Posted April 28 it was really good but I was expecting something way more erotic and hornier 1

The strikes pushed movie release dates so the overall outlook on 2024 is it will be really bad for the business, almost as bad as covid was. So now the saying is basically just try and survive this year of a loss of money. Obviously this mostly affects blockbusters, but it trickles down to the awards movies too and it's going to be a way less crowded year. So it gives opportunities to movies that were released earlier to have chances during awards season. This has already been happening the last few years (EEAAO - March, Oppenheimer - July) possibly due in part to covid as well. 3
WildAmerican Posted April 28 Posted April 28 ouch this isn't great, clearly internet hype didn't translate to a big debut 1 1

skwonderfactory Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Wait, wait… THIS is being acclaimed?! The trailer made it look God awful. 3

And it will clearly be more remembered than other box office "hits" 1

This isn't an amazing debut but it's by no means bad. It did an additional 10M internationally and it might have decent legs because of good word of mouth and upcoming competition that isn't in the same lane. It's also an Amazon production so they could have just released it straight to streaming like the One Direction fan fiction movie but they didn't, so they see promise in it between box office and awards season. 1
Donquizote Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Zendaya will get nominated for Best actress me thinks. She will be this year welcome to the club nomination. AMPAS has been waiting for her right role. She will gather enough passion votes for her to get nominated. 1
Dark Phoenix Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Well that's a reality check; somehow neither of the 3 were a big explosion to bring the audiences to theaters, and let's not compare this with Saltburn because that was a Prime movie with a limited release worldwide and with a streaming date announced before the premiere. This one was a full on theater release with a worldwide promo tour and no release date on streaming announcement. Look at the demos and you will see the reason.

Horizon Flame Posted April 29 Posted April 29 (edited) Another flop for a Zendaya-lead film. She's simply not a box office draw. Edited April 29 by Horizon Flame
