Troye Sivan - "Rush"

Tried to like this cause its troye and the snippets were good but... its kinda just there. The chorus is the best part by far and if it was a little longer maybe it could grow on me faster. Hopefully the album will have better bops.

i don’t get this at all and tbqh the chorus is the straightest thing i have ever heard in my life.

sounds like my childhood bullies got together after too many drinks and are chanting at some poor barman who’s just trying to close up and go home. i’m sure this footie chant was intentional but it is NOT the one

I don't think it sounds very straight honestly. It reminds me more of something like this

I love the song and the video! He always comes through with the visuals and I'm glad most of the songs are over 3 minutes! October couldn't come sooner :jonny:

In regards to the criticism with the  lack of Overweight and Asian people....I get it...but I don't think Troye intentionally told the casting director "No fats! No asians!" like some people are trying to paint the situation.

I get the "chant is too straight" criticism, but I feel like that's the point? It's very YMCA.

I actually get what you mean here :deadbanana2:

Pitchfork called it a “football fans chant” :dies: But yeah as mystery notes my first thought was 90s club music like Dr Alban and it hits hard

His music has always been passably good, but this genuinely feels like a gay classic in the making. I literally can’t get enough of it

I have never really gotten into his music BUT this right here is a serve.

I didn't like the snippets, but the chorus in the context of the song absolutely slays...and the video is iconic.

It’s a bop, yes, but Easy is still his best song I fear… especially the Mark and Kacey version :jonny:

This is exactly the vibe I get as well. I've never understand how people claim this is a "gay song" :skull:

The chorus is actually the gayest part of the song for me. :rip: It's camp!

Pitchfork I'm going to safely assume is referring to football in Europe, not the States, in terms of the irony of their anthems is reality being homoerotic.

The irony and the double-tracked vocals representing a lot of horny men coming across as comically straight frat-house is clearly the point.

What this SCREAMS to me is Hercules and Love Affair, who Pitchfork was obsessing over in 2008. Especially as the dance culture this is clearly referencing with mid-90's handbag house.

Not a fan of the Tik Tok length though. Maybe they thought too long a bridge would slow the momentum or makes things too cheesy and decided to leave the length to the remixes.

feel like the music video outro shouldve been included in the song, sounded wayyy too catchy for it to not be included :gaycat5:

Out of interest, are you not European? I'm just interested to see if maybe if it's the Europeans that are finding the song straightish because of the football culture elements idk :skull:

Except that a LOT of early to mid-90's House anthems that were huge in European gay clubs are still played in American football stadiums, including the South.

They're played alongside trashy bro-country and Aerosmith to fool the straights, but the dynamic renders this comparison pointless :rip:

:rip: have the kids who are complaining about the chants never heard of Pet Shop Boys or... YMCA?

Really solid playlisting start on Spotify! Big on the Internet, cover of Pop Rising, Hot Hits Australia, Viral Hits, Mint, Top 5 on NMF etc etc... that long ass rollout may have actually worked for him :cupid:

the chorus is a bit off putting at first but it grew a lot on me, a banger i fear. i absolutely love the melody of the verses tho, my favorite part :WAP:
