ATRL Moderator bluebirdsforever Posted June 6, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted June 6, 2023 I was ready to drag but this looks... scarily impressive. Still feels more like a tech demo than anything else (and I won't be buying it), but it's shocking what we can achieve now.
Kuba Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 It’s so funny to me how they had a section on eye health, the increasing prevalence of myopia and how we shouldn’t be looking at screens too closely… then they announce this That being said it does look very impressive and will probably look a lot sleeker in 5-10 years!

Right They want that vision health, so you can still see and buy these in the future. - I wonder if they will start selling subscriptions for courtside seats at sport events or unlimited front row at concerts, at a much more affordable price. Many tours will be reaching the billions gross if that were the case. The possibilities it can bring.

Hurem Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 Stop trying to make AR happen, it’s not going to happen 1
Gorjesspazze9 Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 This reviewer got to use it for 30 minutes and said the Eye tracing is almost telepathic like. You can just use your eyes to do to many functions 🤯 Crazy how close we are to having this be the norm
MonsterJohn Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 This black mirror ass thing The only application I would see is if onlyfans guys start streaming their ******* 1 1
PurrKaty Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 That price with current inflation is not gonna work…

Apple was known for being simplistic and minimalistic. What's up with that? It'd be harder to have a working operating system layed ontop of something like glasses, if you need a decently performing OS it would have to be bulkier. I think they're aiming for immersion rather than practicality because it looks like it'll also be a VR headset
Cyanide Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 For 3500? Not until they have good games I bought the other VR headset I think is Samsung or something, and only used it twice
barbiegrande Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 I have too many opps to always have a device blocking my field of vision

Put it to the backburner of Apple ideas until the tech is available to make it more sleek, the Google Glass prototype was where they should've headed imo. The Google Glass prototype was horrible because it had too few sensors. I’ve personally used a Google Glass and it was one of the worst products I’ve used. It also had next to no meaningful applications you could use. If you want an XR headset that does stuff, it can’t look like Google Glass. It’s physically not possible.
Bacratto Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 Looks cool but rather wait when it isn't worth several months of rent.
truthteller Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 (edited) playstation vr2 is like $600 max but of course it has more functions targeting the productivity field but $3500? damn that's more expensive than 2 macbook pros Edited June 6, 2023 by truthteller
BtDecember Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 I need a "lite" version of it that looks like a regular pair of eyeglasses. This looks promising though
Domination Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 This looks impressive and I appreciate that they waiting to unveil this until the product was actually fully functioning unlike just about every other AR headset over the last decade that was basically a tech demo with no practical application. That aside, I question the marketability of this product. I think we are at a tipping point for how much consumers are willing to suspend their experience in the real world for an artificial experience that appeals to their own desires. During the 3D photos portion, I (as much as I am not a fan of him) thought of Bo Burnham talking about the colonization of the mind: Tl;dr - very cool, but I think it’ll flop. It’s inhuman and I think people will prefer for these types of experiences to be novel.

Their profit comes from hardware sales, not ad placement. There are very legitimate criticisms of this device. I’m not even interested in buying one (I’m not a fan of AR/VR in general, tbh). But, some of the criticisms in here make no sense.

I can see, if it were cheaper, that this would be a good all-in-one solution for people living in a small space. If you live in a small studio apartment, you can have a great desk setup and a great home theater without needing the space to do it. For stuff like that, this could be a breakthrough device. The price prohibits that use case because it’s out of reach of people living in studio apartments if we’re being honest. Apple isn’t really pitching it as a social solution like the Metaverse nonsense going on right now. So, that’s reassuring. But there’s still moments in the presentation where I’m a bit unnerved. The digitized FaceTime avatar is very eerie. I’m envisioning multiple people doing that and having conversations with nothing but virtual avatars. That just gives off Black Mirror energy.

Apple devices don't have decent ad blockers everything is locked down by apple. I imagine one will have to close ads to even poo while wearing these .

Also, there are plenty of available ad blockers on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
