The success of Cruel Summer is probably coming at the expense of her newer songs. Karma has fallen off the Top 200 on Spotify and Hits Different fell 85 spots on there. We're seeing the same thing with Post Malone. Sunflower is still getting all these streams after all these years, while his 2 new singles (Chemical and Mourning) are struggling.

That awful Karma remix wouldnt be doing better without Cruel Summer

I’m genuinely happy to see this song surge. I know it’s been getting healthy streams the last month or two but what is making it explode? Is it just the tour or is there a viral video? Is it both?

My guess is that there is a shift going on the music industry right now. The GP seems stuck in 2019, and tuning out the new music for at least the last 3 months. I mean, Taylor and Post have multiple new singles out, but Cruel Summer and Sunflower continue to outperform all of them. It's going to be pretty hard for Speak Now TV or Austin to do well in July, when they've got a years old song overshadowing all of their new releases.
