AH has already smashed and did its thing. CS hasn’t had a chance to smash per se, and some people are probably just discovering it for the first time at her tour (which is one of the opening songs).

it's performing like it's a new single so there is nothing strange if it's making better than anti hero that has almost 8 months. 

Karma is the new song we should compare with. At least at the moment with both versions is more streamed. Let's see if with the summer  and the biggest tour of all time going on Cruel Summerwill became bigger and bigger.

its bizarre to me that they never thought about the fact that cruel summer had to be a single, it was the instant standout from lover

the song is smashing for sure. but as soon as she sends it to radio and makes it an official single but doesn’t reach #1, atrl will be calling it all types of flop and will switch on the song

 

just let it be a well known album track at this point

In a perfect world, Lover's 3 singles would have been YNTCD, Cruel Summer, and Lover (in that order).

 

Heck, even in a world where mistakes like ME! and The Man were released, Taylor's team could have saved the era by making Cruel Summer the 5th single in May/June 2020, after the worst of the lockdowns were over.

Speak Now TV is arriving prematurely. Summer could have been dedicated to this track (or Karma). SNTV September/October unless she's aiming to push another TV at the end of this year, but honestly it's an overkill at this point.
