305 Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Not #83 for Down A flop indeed. Scrap the era, delete Dinah and Ally, bring in Tinashe.
Rico Shameless v2 Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 If Kendrick is done with DNA, he needs to go ahead and set up Loyalty / Love to the appropriate formats.
pride4jc1222 Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 I'm The One could be the first song to start 1-3-3-3-3-2 since CSTF.

simmnfierzig Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Sorry had a typo in my Excel sheet. Have Down debuting at #53, not #83. I don't know how I missed that

One thing you overlook though is the increase in stresming during that time. has pop really fallen in stresming from 2014, or hasurban exploded bring most of the stresming increase over the three years, and pop stayed about the same amount of streams overall. i think it's more that urban has exploded due to the number of users and pop stagnated for streams, than urban is suddenly bigger. No, just in 2015 Taylor had a huge smash streaming era (YT-based) with a pure pop album, there has definitely been a shift in the trends. Maybe the male pop tunes aren't as recognized as pop like the female songs because of the genres they're influenced by and, well, because they're made by males. Edited June 7, 2017 by Mastamaind

Taylor was an outlier, in a similar sense to Adele. Overall, the pop girls are flopping because all the music they've released this year is either just extremely bad (Bon Appetit, Malibu) or derivative of something male artists have done better earlier this year or last year (ex. many people have pointed out that "The Cure" sounds like something The Chainsmokers have done). Even "Issues" isn't THAT good. People here just like it and want it to go top ten because it's by a female. Just let it sink in that the last female to go number 1 without needing a male feature was Adele. Last female to go number 1 at all was Halsey. So yeah.

Just let it sink in that the last female to go number 1 without needing a male feature was Adele. Last female to go number 1 at all was Halsey. So yeah. Don't agree, there has been plenty of great songs by females (Don't think "Malibu" or "Bon Appétit" are even close to bad anyway), but the biggest singles by females last year were for example, a dancehall song, "Work", that led the way for other dancehall smashes like "One Dance", "Cheap Thrills" or "Shape of You", or R&B/pop rap influenced pop songs like "Work from Home" which the Top 10 has seen plenty. You can't talk about Taylor being an outlier when her previous album ('Red') was competing head-to-head with other pop girls and guys and being blocked from higher spots by the likes of Flo Rida, Ke$ha and Maroon 5, who are not guaranteed to get a #1. She's a pretty solid album seller, but that doesn't automatically translate to being able to bring the singles hence why Adele only got two hits so far with '25'. '1989' was way bigger than 'Red' single-wise and with the performance of the latter you could have expected her to get a couple of Top 10s with '1989', but she completely smashed with a pure pop album. By the way, Gaga has been doing electronic music way before The Chainsmokers even debuted and already had a full on EDM album before their first hit ("#SELFIE"). She also already did soft electronic songs like "Closer" in 2008 ("Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)" (being synthpop and electropop precursors of the EDM movement). That "The Cure" has similarities with soft/chill EDM songs like the ones The Chainsmokers do just means Gaga, as a natural electronic musician is able to do current trends of electronic music with ease and actually do them better. That you think someone already did what she's doing better is your (factually wrong) opinion. Edited June 9, 2017 by Mastamaind
