He sucks but its based on his concept album The Wall where the singer after a mental breakdown fantasizes that he is a fascist dictator and his concert is a fascist rally.  He is performing the Wall at the concert.

of course this is shocking but it's art and context matters. he did it during his iconic song In the Flesh

Isn't that the fantasy of the character in the album / movie?

Even if it is, that doesn't give him the pass to cosplay an SS officer firing a machine gun, in Germany of all places

this is what i initially thought too. however, i still think it’s incredibly stupid to re-create the “insane dictator fantasy” live in concert, complete with a uniform and a rifle, in Germany of all places, especially when he’s been accused of antisemitic behavior in the past. there’s a chance that this was just a misguided, unintentional offense but it’s just so obtuse and offensive that i’m glad they’re still hitting him with an investigation :rip:

I mean he is Roger Waters. He was trying to be provocative that is his whole career. Rock stars used to feast off being investigated and pissing people off.

Has anyone heard anything this guy said in the past 50 years? Zero surprise.

So artists that don't use Nazi imagery for controversy? Sure!

I don't like him. But I guess he does that for every show when he plays In The Flesh. He already convinced a court here that his show isn't anti-semitic enough to be banned and that concerns parts of the show that are much worse than this. If he wore the swastika they would have a point, but he doesn't, so he can do as he pleases.

Quote

Berlin Police Chief Inspector Martin Halweg confirmed to Sky News that officers had "initiated criminal investigation proceedings in the case regarding suspicion of incitement of the people".

He added: "The context of the stage clothes worn is likely to condone, glorify or justify the Nazi dictatorship and arbitrary rule in a way that violates the dignity of the victims and thereby disturbs public peace."

"incitement of the people", girl, Germany's racism didn't grow because Roger Waters dressed up as a Hitler parody that he has been doing for decades:deadbanana2:

This. I wonder if anybody walked out. Also, is this what he did for the whole tour or he did that only in Germany?

Hiding behind art as context does NOT absolve the semi-glorification of white supremacist iconography.

He's been doing it for decades, in the exact same way. It references the character of Pink Floyd's The Wall album, who fantasizes about being a dictator. The imagery appears in the 1982 movie based on the album.

Roger Waters is a huge POS. But The Wall is criticism of war, not glorification.

The fact that he did this in Germany out of all the places :rip:

Oh, that's not-

hasn't he toured this album before in Germany with no issue?

But, it is also a semi-glorification of white supremacist iconography. There are alternatives to criticizing war that do NOT involve going on stage in a Nazi uniform. This tangentially relates to the conversation around Civil War (white supremacist) iconography and the idea that those entities can be preserved, studied, etc. without statues, building names, etc.
