Marina and Charli distanced each other after the whole "That Froot looks familiar" shady tweet by Marina. 

 

Even Charli a couple years ago said on IG that she would like to work with Marina again and tagged her, but Marina didn't reply. 

 

With Ellie is a longer history as they met when they were part of Neon Gold, then Ellie became more famous than her and she started to hang out with big league musicians and producers. People say that Marina got jealous, other say that Ellie slept with someone that Marina fell in love with... Truth is that they were very very close and suddenly they publicly showed dislike for each other, mostly Marina.

 

And it's obvious that the song "Better Than That" is about Ellie. Marina says it's not. Ellie has never acknowledge it (or maybe she did, I don't remember) and currently they are "OK" with each other, I think they moved on from that beef that started 10 years ago or so. 

 

 

 

Marina is very kind to her friends and even more to her fans, but if you make her angry or make her feel betrayed she gets very petty and handles that kind of stuff very poorly. 

 

I mean, she has been close friends with Ellie, Charli, Lana... And it's pretty much public how is Marina the one who decided to separate from those friendships when you can tell the other ones are very social and friendly with their peers.

The "Better Than That" rumours were purely from fan speculation and fantasies. In fact Ellie sleeping around with everyone was purely made up. ellie herself said she was extremely upset that the public believed those baseless accusations especially because she was such a shy introvert. She developed really bad anxiety over the lies cause like imagine everyone believing that you did something bad when you never did. They never showed public dislike for eachother...what? That was also purely fan speculation.

 

"Additionally, Marina has added some old pictures from TFJ era in which she is together with Ellie (she did this during her 4 years break) so I think that if you hate someone and write a song about her being a ***** won't be uploading pictures with that person. That would be very hypocrite."

 

They are still friends. They posed together like late last year for many cute pics and posted eachother many times.

 

But I guess at the end of the day we'll never know truly who the song was about as only Marina knows.

Also Marina said this in March 2015 which was basically when FROOT was released:
