Is ageism a less phenomenon in Latin America + Europe than US?

That's only because Shakira still looks young.

Yeah. Italian radio have no problem playing +40 years old artists.

Is the reason why someone as Shakira can have 2 Top 10 songs on Billboard 100 just this year with an age of 45-46 because the Latin community in US + Latin countries + Europe are much less about ageism than US in general or better saying: non Latin communities in US?

Your example of the US being more ageist than Europe + latm is that Shakira got 2 top 10 hits in the US (and not Europe)?

Y’all are going to call Beyoncé local and then say the US is uniquely ageist?  Make up y’alls mind.

Beyonce is the exception in the US. It helps that she looks young, and didn't she co-own Tidal? Jay owns a record label too. All that to say they are the power couple in music. Like the other MPGs are in danger when they turn 40.

And Shakira is not an exception?

Yes I agree! Although Shakira like others said is because of her base in Latin America and Europe.

My point is they are both exceptions and that the US is not unique in this regard.

Yeah

I don’t understand why American culture is so ageist.

Ageism is the one issue that affects everyone at some point, I really don’t understand how society punishes itself so much with that?

Like what’s the point of making someone less relevant after certain age?

Most Spotify users for example are between 18-30

So we should stop listening to 30yo+ artists just because they are not in the same age group?

Age is completely irrelevant

Yes, that’s exactly what I said. Delete all artists in your library above the age of 30

Yes and no. Shakira found success this time for the controversy with Piqué, without it all her music would be a flop like everything she released between El Dorado and the BZRAP session. :duck:

Yawn. The only flop is your repeated attempts at dragging Shakira. :bibliahh:Let’s not forget the instant backfire that was your “Acróstico” thread. Lol :rip:

The song that peaked in the Top 10 on the Global Spotify chart and is still higher than the thread you created about it not being in the Top 50. Lol :bibliahh:

Another flop comment. :bibliahh:

As everyone said. Shakira is the exception. She is loved by latins but this is still happening for other Latin artists worldwide. They release and keep flopping.

Look at Thalia, she was HUGE....and is now nowhere to be seen. Same with the rest. Enrique and Ricky were the most prominent players in the market and now they flop with every single.

It is hard to stay relevant in LATAM

Traditionally the Latin market is very loyal to the artists that have made it big. A common criticism of it in the 90s through most of the 2000s that it was very difficult for new artist to gain success because radio would spam the latest single from a small group of long timers. Things changed in the late 2010s with this new wave of reggaeton, a lot of the industry lifers for the first time started to get cycled out unless they jumped on the trend and it became a constant hyping up of the next big reggaeton star.

Still I don't think it's as bad for the industry lifers as it looks. Enrique scored a fairy decent hit with his with his last album. Even the follow ups at least got on the right end of the charts. His problem is that he has become completely uninterested in pushing his music; no interviews, no performances, no promotion of any kind save for some social media posts. The fact that he gets any play at all is something of a miracle and suggests the Latin industry and audience is still open to him if he puts in some effort.
