Is ageism a less phenomenon in Latin America + Europe than US?

Is the reason why someone as Shakira can have 2 Top 10 songs on Billboard 100 just this year with an age of 45-46 because the Latin community in US + Latin countries + Europe are much less about ageism than US in general or better saying: non Latin communities in US?

Tina Turner smashed and broke many records in Europe while being in her mid 40s and early 50s so yes.

Madonna's COADF smashed more in Europe than the USA so I agree.:celestial2:

Shakira is and will always be eternally relevant for the Latino community she is an exception, not the rule sadly.

Capitalism only wants to exploit new, young, fresh blood while elsewhere your legacy and legendary status is celebrated

Shakira is def an exception to the Latin community, but I have seen it happen with a lot of her male counterparts. Radios barely play them anymore.

I mean U.S. is just a mess, it’s not about arts or lyrics anymore or fighting your way through the music industry. You have women that paved the way for all these “new icons” and are considered flops.

then you have island boys getting record deals lmao the u.s. is just a joke

Yes absolutely. Here every new madonna project is highly played by radios.

Laura Pausini Is 50 and with 30 years of career. Her new song went #1 on radios on the first week.

When we have "grammys like show" It's full of oldest Singer with the new or young artists.  There Is more respect for the career of the Legends.

Also young artists very often make duets with old people (a 20 years old rapper is right now #1 on charts with a duet with a 83 years old woman).

Not really, American Entertainment industry is just the worse cuz we consider people Boomers once they hit 25

Y’all are going to call Beyoncé local and then say the US is uniquely ageist?  Make up y’alls mind.

Its complex but its basically just America lmao. Like... Madge was smashing in Europe at 50, age isn't a thing here. At all. It seems America writes people off so fast and so young. Same in India actually, "older" stars are still killing it alongside the younger acts. They dont care about age... its not really a thing.

It’s the last call though. The hype around her saves her chart performance but the radio support isnt as big as few years ago.

Btw Mariah also went #1 with touch my body and #7 with obsessed by age 41-42.

I mean latin america is way more racist, sexist, homophobic and transphobic than the US and I say this as a latino myself :toofunny2:

Unfortunately we are so far behind on those social issues.

We’ll see how Shakira’s album does if she ever releases another in the States.  She’s good for getting a hit single or two at least.

As everyone said. Shakira is the exception. She is loved by latins but this is still happening for other Latin artists worldwide. They release and keep flopping.

Look at Thalia, she was HUGE....and is now nowhere to be seen. Same with the rest. Enrique and Ricky were the most prominent players in the market and now they flop with every single.

It is hard to stay relevant in LATAM

You saying this as if LATAM isn't :deadbanana2: if anything they're WORSE

Latin America loves and supports older women. From Celia Cruz having hits in her 70s (La Vida Es Un Carnaval in 1998, La Negra Tiene Tumbao in 2001), Rocío Dúrcal in her 50s (Infiel in 2000). And Gloria Estefan in her 50s.

Definitely less ageist.

I remember reading an article from an american perspective, analyzing MTV Europe, in the 90s. And besides the eurodance stuff that was played in high rotation on MTV Europe, americans were surprised to see MTV Europe playing older acts regularly, from Tina Turner to Cher, which by that time in the 90s were considered too old for MTV

Partially, +40 woman can still smash but only if they look younger and hot
