They've been irrelevant for a while now but it is indeed sad to see such a major pop culture ceremony fade away in such a slow painful death. I miss being a young kid and always getting hyped for the VMAs. I still remember watching the britney, madonna and xtina kiss live on tv.

And no, I don't buy the argument I've seen here that it's a form of promotion for "those that need it". NO, only those invited that don't need it, and for a ceremony that no one watches for trophies that hold no cultural cache any longer. The only traction is for a live performance that can go viral and there's plenty of other outlets for that with much better chances of wider audiences.

I mean if they wanna still do it and its possible I don't see why not its just awards.
