the channel HBO on linear TV for cable users that pay for HBO and on "max" to stream for subscribers of what were HBO max and discovery plus

Removing HBO from the name was a good call. Imagine wanting to destroy the HBO brand by associating it with Dr. Pimple Popper, 90-Day Fiancé and all the other fake reality tat from Discovery.

It's really not though. It's like how when Disney bought Fox, they protected their brand by not putting their name on panned bombs like The New Mutants etc.

 

I do agree that 'Max' is an awful name though. I don't understand what was wrong with WB+.
