swissman Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 I've always thought Nicole Scherzinger is the only other person with comparable skills insofar as dancing and vocal ability. The difference however is that Beyoncé has a more natural charisma and is able to project ferocity and sassiness and then soft, sweet, joyous lightheartedness on a dime.
swissman Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 The thing about Beyoncé as a performer is that it's not even necessarily about how well she sings or dances (both of which she does extremely well), but how she puts it all together and the unique magic that she is able to project during the performance. It's why she can just strut the opening of Crazy in Love and it feels like an all-out extravaganza. 2 1
swissman Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 (edited) I find it weird when people bring up "connecting to the audience" as an asterisk in discussions about Beyoncé as a performer because that's really never been an issue with her. She's connected to audiences for decades, which is precisely why she's rated as the performer she is. For example, her Coachella performance is so legendary and successful despite being a festival appearance because of that, and it was praised as such before the documentary even came out. There have been tons of live-streamed concerts from that event and others like it. There have been other documentary concert specials. None have had the impact and notoriety as Beychella because she didn't just sing well and dance energetically, she gave the entire package: the spectacle, the performance, the meaning, the message, the audience's connection to the whole thing. But beyond that, beyond even her own music, Beyoncé is very adept at performing music that isn't even her own, that isn't created to promote her brand, engineered to be relatable, or meant to create a "connection" but is just meant to showcase skill. Not everyone has this versatility either, which is what makes her such an amazing performer. Edited May 21, 2023 by swissman 1

Chris Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 Wait who was the one that said Beyonce can lay down and she will still be a good performer?
Chris Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 People want to mention Beyonce lipping but aren't those still her vocals though?

Maybe Usher but he doesn’t have a good creative team.He would dance up a storm but would be boring to watch. Maybe he should work w the creatives Abel works with? Strangely enough Janet’s “Four Dancers and a Bedsheet” bare-bones tour looks more interesting than the Renny Stadium Extravaganza (and she’s dancing more). Obviously their voices are not comparable Not Four Dancers and a Bedsheet Janet is not seeing B vocally. I am surprised people mentioned Pink but nobody mentioned Mya. Mya is lowkey better than Janet, Aaaliyah, Ciara, and J Low and never gets the credit. She is amazing. I’m guessing this forum is too pop to know about her. The only females who could do truly challenge Bey as a performer are Mya, Kelly Rowland, Teyana Taylor, and Tinashe vocally and dance wise imho. Beyoncé even wanted to sign Teyana . Lil Mama also can sing and dance. B was the first to recognize Teyana. Teyana choreographed Ring the Alarm when she was 16. It isn’t fair to compare Pink as she’s a totally different dance style than Bey and Gaga cannot dance. Tina is like from the 50s-way too old and diff generation and style of music Edited May 21, 2023 by Nippy'sReceipts
Pud Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 I’m more of a Gaga Stan, but have to admit that Bey is probably the most objectively well-rounded performer of her generation. No one else is as good at both singing and dancing. Although I don’t know why the Hive keep insisting she only uses pre-recorded vocals when she’s dancing. She frequently uses them when she’s standing still (The Way We Were etc). Which is strange to me, because she’s certainly more than capable of doing it live… I’m sure she’d sound better actually

That’s the thing with her, she’s the only one that can do both extremely well, thus making her the best performer of all time, dead or alive. Pretty much this. Beyonce is a nice mix of both worlds. She's better than average dancer and an exceptional singer. She knows how to utilize her strengths but what I love about Beyonce that's always been true: she's always hustled and honed her skill. Her ambition has always been consistent but she's used to to high efficacy where it mattered and she's the only one doing it like the way she is. She's always been talented but you can clearly see over the course of her career now disciplined she was at just perfecting every component of her craft. Absolutely legendary. Bey_Rihstan Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) Bruno Mars is the only currently popular artist that can get on a stage with Beyonce and dance and sing just as well. P!nk is another acceptable answer because she can dance (and sing)very well actually. But her performances are more based on showmanship than stage presence. So Bey wins easily there imo The vast majority of these other selections… udjcciockfov Edited May 22, 2023 by Bey_Rihstan 1

Beyoncé has tells when she's lipping and they are not present at all in that performance. I'm not sure what happened right at the beginning with the 'oo's but the performance wasn't lipped. Enough.
