Cruella did well enough to secure a sequel, she collaborated with Yorgos and secured herself an Supporting Actress nomination at the Oscars for The Favourite and is collaborating with him again. She doesn't need to take on a superhero role.

In the meantime right after La La Land she met her boyfriend, got married and pregnant so that is a lot of changes in her personal life that made her career linger for a bit.

Cruella is a hit although it was released during pandemic time. Disney already greenlit a sequel for that. Plus it is well received by audiences. 

The Favorite is a critically acclaimed movie with decent box office gross for indie movie.

Poor Things is another project that she'll be acclaimed. 

We love a talented actress with star power like her. 

Something that certain panned and bombed actress cant relate
