The official reason for all of this is security because of password protection, so it wouldn't make sense to differentiate between inactive accounts with content and those without content, they're both at the same risk. But they want to give people time to prepare and do a backup. Edited May 17, 2023 by The Next Day
Iridesence Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 it’s understandable for social media websites to do this like instagram and twitter etc., but youtube feels a bit morally wrong. that website is like a library of the 21st century.

There are some accounts with over 2b views that havent been active since like 2 years ago. will youtube do something as brutal and sabotagy as this? i dont think so. but it is obvious that google will email everyone about this including their recovery email backups so the user is notified. I really hope they dont remove inactive channels because that's disastrous for youtube and its user
KaledKalil Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 It's basically the end of flash all over again. A bunch of websites from wayback machine doesn't work with the discontinuation of flash. If you have/know any blog that it's interesting, I recommend to upload a copy of it on wayback machine just to be safe.

Unfortunately they can't just differentiate between Youtube and all the other Google services with their guidelines. Accounts will definetly be notified multiple times. And I think there is hope that a lot of channels are inactive while the accounts are used. You only need to write a mail, upload something to drive or just watch Youtube with the account and nothing will happen. It sucks for completely abandoned accounts that won't survive, but going forward the users will know they can't just abandon their accounts if they want the content to survive.
Baby Judas Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 If the video is still getting revenues, I think that's considered active right? This is probably just for those small inactive accounts..

So inactive channels are still safe I guess (as long as they still get money or if a label gets money from it)
