KatyPrismSpirit Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 RIAA counting in the sales of the songs and dividing it by 10 is such a crooked formula and not representative of the album's sales. Especially if the album has more than 10 tracks
IBeMe Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 WTF?! not it being #7 the POWER of Cruel Summer She needs to give it a music video in July when Karma is done its radio run as a single. two smashes back to back.

Especially if the album has more than 10 tracks I think the RIAA will change their formula soon, there are some flaws. And the songs are losing many copies by the ratio in streaming. But for now it's the official formula, we can't do anything.
Cruel Summer Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 good lord Lover Not y'all mad about the RIAA in here over this album

Feanor Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 The way this is going to be another Diamond album for her if she actually bothers to certify her stiff of course
GoodGuyGoneGhetto Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 (edited) So, “ANTI (5.7M) and “Lover” (5.4M) are the only female albums released since January 2016 to move 5M+ units in the U.S? 7 years? Actually, how much has “WWFA…” sold? Edited May 15, 2023 by GoodGuyGoneGhetto

I’m almost certain it’s just these two albums that have crossed 5M in the U.S since. Not even Billie, Dua, Olivia, Adele, Beyoncé’s recent albums have done it. Midnights might cross it, and potentially SOS in the future but that’s it. @Feanor

Album units are really much lower than they were a decade ago even with sps. 1 minute ago, GoodGuyGoneGhetto said: I’m almost certain it’s just these two albums that have crossed 5M in the U.S since. Album units are lower but now they tend to sell for much longer time.

I know for sure that Sour isn’t there since Midnights surpassed it some months back. But I’m really surprised if WWAFA isn’t, it’s pretty crazy that Lover already has more units if it’s not there. In any case though, that really puts things into perspective. Even for men 5M sellers since 2016 have been very far and few between. I guess at this point either WWAFA (if it hasn’t yet), Sour, or TS11 will be the next female album to do it, since it’ll probably take SOS a couple years. Unless the impending deluxe edition makes it surge again for a prolonged period of time, of course. And the sky is the limit for Lover I guess since it’s pulling 35k+ weekly units at the moment. 6M this year locked.

I don’t even know where to find this data but back in early 2021 there was a billboard update here and I remember Anti having around 4.8 million, WWFA having 4.4 million, TUN having around 4 million, Reputation having about 4 million, and lover having about 3 million. I feel like WWFA and Reputation have most likely crossed the 5M mark. Edited May 15, 2023 by byzantium

Sour and midnights should be next, it's extremely hard to hit 5M these days. as they said there, for songs it's a little easier with streaming, but not for albums.

Ms. Togekiss Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 Could you say that in the streaming era it’s easier for albums to go platinum but really rare for them to go over 5x platinum because that’s the impression I’ve gotten so far. Ever since 1989, I think only Taylor, Adele, Morgan, and Drake have surpassed 6M, excluding double albums (I think Hamilton is up there but it benefitted slightly from being a double album)

(there are so many more colours to use: emerald: sapphire, jade, ruby, etc etc,)
