“We are in the process of reviewing the content on our DTC services to align with the strategic changes in our approach to content curation,” said CFO Christine McCarthy on the company’s post-earnings call.

“As a result, we will be removing certain content from our streaming platforms, and currently expect to take an impairment charge of approximately $1.5 to $1.8 billion. The charge, which will not be recorded in our segment results will primarily be recognized in the third quarter as we complete our review and remove the content.”

That's not a bad thing, depending on what they remove. I hope they don't remove their own movies and series, but some of the other random stuff that's Disney—but not—can go.

There is f-all on it. :rip:

I can see them remove the princess movies those classic animated movies made a ton of money for Disney during their vault exclusives years. I think remember reading an old article that said snow white made like $5 million in its first week by making it available as a collective for dvd/blue ray disc.

Life-Size once again was ahead of its time (considering it's NEVER been on Disney+/any streaming service :biblio:)

Following the HBO MAX print. It’s impact. :gayorkcat2:

I assume this is probably any titles they don’t own the full rights to/3rd party content on Hulu.

Yeah I never understood that it’s not like it aged terribly. It was just a cute movie. It’s not like that one Disney show called “life with Derek” where they clearly were pushing for a step brother/step sister/incest relationship.

Isn't its content very small? I do wonder what they'll remove!

Apparently some older movies (including the Disney ones that originally aired on ABC like Life-Size) had weird contracts, like the language didn’t incorporate something that could be used to cover streaming rights so everything has to be negotiated again (and no one's cared to do/fix it yet)

cuz Freeform aired it in decent quality a few years ago before the sequel premiered..

idk doesn't rly make a lot of sense. all I know is they're dumb af, I've seen quite a few viral tweets abt it in recent months esp now with all the Barbie movie hype and the plot appears to be literally the same "doll has to adapt to the real world" premise but welp *shrug*

Disney+ catalog in the US is close to garbage. Hurry up and close the Hulu deal 'cause they need that library.
