Gwendolyn Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Disney+ shed another 4 million subscribers in the first three months of 2023, marking the Disney-owned streamer’s second consecutive quarterly drop after closing 2022 with its first-ever decline. On the bright side, the Mouse House also managed to narrow its streaming business losses by $400 million, down 26% year over year. On Wednesday, CEO Bob Iger and Co. beat Wall Street estimates for Disney’s quarterly earnings and revenue due to an impressive Jan.-March showing at the company’s theme parks. That win comes during a fiscal Q2, which concluded April 1, plagued by companywide layoffs, a looming (and now active) writers strike, and a turf war with Florida Gov. Rick DeSantis. https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/disney-plus-subscribers-q2-earnings-1235607524/
Baby Judas Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 That's what happens if you have a garbage catalogue..
Happylittlepunk Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Wow not even Star Wars could save them this year. they should focus on writing again and stop marvel projects.
Totami Legend Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 (edited) Hopefully they will focus on physical media now Edited May 10, 2023 by Totami Legend
Duanielipa Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Not surprising seeing as they ruined Star Wars, despite it being one of the most beloved series of all time, and are in the process of running Marvel into the ground too. Plus the live action remakes are awful too.
Starkboy Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 There is just not anything interesting going for them Most of originals have been very weak

Gossip_Boy Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 They rely largely on subpar Marvel shows and Star Wars. Outside of that what does Disney+ have? A bunch of nostalgia bait reboots/remakes/sequels etc which are also largely terrible? Way too little content aimed at too small of an audience. There’s not a single adult show to watch on there like…
stjosephprey4us Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 No Marvel shows in 2023 (yet) and no HSMTMTS = no subscribers
fountain Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Disney+ is pretty good if you aren’t from the US, since internationally where Hulu does not operate its content is included in Disney+ too, which makes for a more diverse and well established service. But obviously the US is Disney’s main market, and they are getting a lesser product, so the losses make sense. Overall it seems like the beginning of the end for streaming in general, anyway.
Cyanide Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 I used it like once to watch Toy Story with my 6 year old niece
Gwendolyn Posted May 10, 2023 Author Posted May 10, 2023 I also wanted to re watch some of the Disney Channel shows I grew up watching, I never realised how badly aged and unfunny most of them are The Nickelodeon shows on Netflix/Paramount+ had more replay value

Gorjesspazze9 Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Secret Invasion and Loki S2 will change that but Disney really does need better content. Marvel and Star Wars and Bluey 🤭been carrying them for 3 years. Like they really need stronger IP’s. Pixar and Animation need to have another renaissance
thetea Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 this is so weird, i love disney plus. i guess it's not the same in other countries, but mine really only has 3 streaming services, so all the companies disney owns has their stuff on disney plus, and they have a great catalogue.

I just figured I am too old to watch these shows the jokes and writing were terrible but I figured it’s clearly for kids lol. At least my lil nieces enjoy watching that’s so raven, proud family, and Kim possible which were my most fave.
