but this is.

It's not (I see no "padamic" and I'm not a Kylie hater - no need to dislike this comment!).

The more I listen to Padam Padam, the more I hear the chorus of this old BSB song:

ATRL promised that this would be a big hit, but...

It's a legitimate hit in UK, is JUST starting in most of Europe and isn't sent to US radio for almost another 2 weeks. What are you on :rip:

Hope it gets added to Hot Hits NL soon!

I was hoping her team would’ve made vinyl singles for this as one last push specifically in the UK, but with how backed up the factories are… Probably could’ve taken it to Top 5 had they placed the order a few months ago

It's a shame so much of her promo was focused on the US (probably to gather some buzz for the residency), when she should be out and about in Europe and Oceania, where it actually has a chance of being HUGE, pushing this harder.

I think they were more focused on promoting US for the Vegas residence

The problem here on atrl is that we dont really get the bigger picture

Kylie is like a million years in the business.  I guess she would be happy with another hit in her hands but i think she cares about other things

As an old fan, I do see the bigger picture. I just don't see the reason for Kylie doing so much US promo now when the Residency isn't even announced. It didn't even build up demand for it. And it's not like Padam is a hit in North America to convert streams into sales. She should have focused on the single for now and maybe do all that promo when the album is released, maybe do that ticket + physical CD bundle some artists do.

I mean you're in the wrong for expecting Kylie to deliver a Blinding Lights/Shape of You-sized smash hit. Our (& Kylie's) expectations for Padam were very managed and realistic, and it has far outperformed them. To us it's therefore justifiably a padamic.

All the US promo might translate to Vegas, some 2024 shows and Tension becoming her best opening in US since Fever. What is rather off putting is how little she is caring about Europe though, especially after how bad the Golden Tour performed.

It’s nice to see this at least doing something on pop radio in the US.

I honestly agree with you. I’m frustrated too because Kylie could’ve had a genuine European smash on her hands if her promo was more focused there. I’ll never understand why she was performing on American Idol instead of Eurovision, that promo slot would’ve elevated Padam and made it an actual hit outside of just the UK.

Even if she didn’t want to do that, she could’ve easily released a Padam CD single with an exclusive b-side and snatched a position in the top 5. Drum, Running, or Hello compliment Padam perfectly and would’ve fit as the b-side. I don’t understand why BMG is so stingy when it comes to those. Parlophone was giving us b-sides clear up until KMO.

they are out of touch with reality with those decisions, that's why I'm not so sure about Tension ever being a single

I think they did the best they could and capitalised on PP pretty well all things considered.

Traditional promo is a dead concept so flying her all over Europe just for some exposure would only exhaust her. The AI performance was really well received meanwhile all the guest performers on Eurovision barley received a boost on the charts (Rita Ora, Netta..).

They could’ve gone harder putting her on TTH but maybe BMG lack the resources to pull this off. Anyways these past 2 months have been such a fun ride and only did good for her image and legacy. :bird:

I'm also championing for some European promo and want to see Kylie reinstate her 2000's dominance but at the end of the day, the math just isn't mathing. Even if the promo tripled Padam's units in Europe, BMG would not recover the cost of the promotional trail, to have Kylie and her entire crew fly over to different countries to physically promote one single. Artists in general have stopped doing that. I remember the A-listers used to do some promo on like The Voice Germany or X Factor France etc, but I rarely see that anymore. They probably have some stuff lined up for the album. They could do some magazines and interviews I guess, which cost less, but maybe they're also saving that for the album. I would assume the US promo was taken care of from the Vegas production company

Does the label really pay for that? I think that Kylie pays for that herself. There are interviews from the Aphrodite and Kiss Me Once eras where she talked about her giving only regular hotel rooms and not suites to people she had flown in for promo and videos because she was on a budget and joked about not wanting to completely burn her wallet over just one single campaign.

This is a good point. But I feel like if Padam got a proper promotional push and became a hit throughout Europe, that would ultimately help the album because the streams would be going towards it once it’s released. Of course you never know if a song will be a hit or not so they may not have wanted to take the risk, but it feels like the signs are all there for this song to become much bigger. It’s just annoying how Kylie’s legacy status is preventing this song from reaching its full potential.

I mean... they're supposed to :toofunny2: Maybe Kylie paid out of her own pocket for all expenses that exceeded the label's budget, Idk. Messy though :toofunny2:

Promo would definitely help her overall. The most important thing would be to boost her profile and help her sell tour tickets. But with the tour announcement and pre-sale being months away and the album coming out in September, I can see why investing on a major physical promo trail for the lead isn't cost effective. OR, and that's also highly likely, they didn't see this kind of smashery coming and when Padam started taking off it was already too late to start booking things in Europe and rescheduling all her other obligations, especially with Vegas on the way. But I hope they go HARD during Tension's release month.

This! I think it would be a bigger hit with some promo in Europe. I don't understand the full promo in US...
