It really was the short hair. That, in combination with the weird behaviour all the time made her look like someone's alcoholic aunt at a wedding

How was the Hollaback Girl hairstyle any different from Gwen’s look though? It was straight and long in the music video. Plus she’s literally always been blonde. Katy was known for her long black hair and decided to buzz it off and dye it blonde. That’s literally a complete 180. Also when it comes to Madonna and her hair at 34-35, her Bedtime Stories look hair wise was very similar to her True Blue/Blond Ambition look. Short blonde locks. Her hair in her 1983 debut, True Blue, I’m Breathless, and Bedtime Stories album covers don’t look extremely different, unlike Katy’s Teenage Dream and Witness hair. Plus Madonna was also known as a blonde.

Oh also, and the reason I brought up age was because Miley was only 20-21 during that era. People in their late teens/early 20s are known to do erratic things including altering their looks every so often and very drastically. So Miley having that hair style at 20 is going to be differently received than a woman in her mid 30s doing the same thing. Is it unfair? Yes. But unfortunately that’s society for you.

But like other people said, she wore wigs of different colors and nobody cared. There was something more to this and maybe it was the hairstyle along with the cringey music.

Katy's main strength was her sex appeal. once she cut and dyed her hair like that, she lost it.

Miley was 19-21 with this haircut and needed an image change to break away from Hannah.

 

Katy was 33. Most stars at that age are getting plastic surgery to cling to whatever youth they have left. Katy basically did the opposite and hit fast forward on the aging button, adopting the hair and makeup style of a 45 year old wine mom.

ya but those colorful wigs always fit her face/ persona. the blonde pixie cut just made her look like a crazy karen

The Bon Appétit promo cycle damaged her career enormously.

Buzzcut + SNL performance + Witness World Wide Livestream + Ellen Interview + Migos feature (instead of Ariana)+ Bon Appétit video + Cherry Pie truck in Times Square + Obama joke … she was doomed to flop at that point.

I think she really looks great with blonde long hair (like electric)
