Bloodflowers. Posted May 6, 2023 Posted May 6, 2023 I mean... what is he afraid of? He will have to eventually debate Republican nominee and I was told Biden's Democratic nominees RJK and Marianne Williamson are a long shot at winning the primary nomination, so clearly he is capable of defending his positions and easily solidify his positions since he has been a great president so far and the debates only can empower his campaign and inspire bigger number of voters to go out and vote for him 1
Cruel Summer Posted May 6, 2023 Posted May 6, 2023 Oh wow. So anyone defending the elimination of a proper primary process just because he's incumbent is going against the will of their own fellow Biden voters (not to mention the principles of democracy in general). Maybe the DNC doesn't actually have the pulse of the people on this - who would have ever thought! Time to put debates back on the calendar or Joey and the DNC are cowards.
Cheers Posted May 6, 2023 Posted May 6, 2023 We literally don't want Biden. He's handing over the presidency to the republicans at this point. 1

musiclove1 Posted May 6, 2023 Posted May 6, 2023 DemocRATs need another Obama or else this is easily going the Trump way.

Machete Posted May 6, 2023 Posted May 6, 2023 I’m not a fan of Biden running again but why are we all acting dense? Since when has the incumbent president participated in primary debates

Since when has the incumbent president participated in primary debates Democrats have only had incumbents 3 times in the last like 6 decades. Carter's refusal to participate despite an active, real primary challenger soured his base. We got Reagan. Pushing for Clinton to be unchallenged only delayed a backlash to Dems, giving us GWB in 2000. Pushing for Obama to be unchallenged only delayed a backlash to Dems, giving us Trump in 2016. Primaries are not some historical, scared event. They're fairly new and constantly changing. Unelected super delegates only just stopped being a thing in 2020 because the base disliked them. Biden himself in 2024 is literally switching Iowa from its first slot after decades due to the Dem base finding Iowa not representative of the Democrats' voter base. He's doing this, of course, to uplift the even older, more conservative state of South Carolina, but still. Elected Dems can either swim with the current of their voting base or swim against the current of their base. 2

It would be a massive waste of time and money for the DNC to do this, Williamson and Kennedy have zero chance of winning. Plus it would be extremely unprofessional of the DNC to platform two anti-vaxxers. 1

Williamson is about as anti-vaxx as Biden or someone like Pete Buttigieg, who literally advocated in 2020 for religious exemptions for vaccines and still found himself is a cushy admin job under Biden. 1
Swirl900 Posted May 6, 2023 Posted May 6, 2023 Well they can't do that. That would be democratic. And they can't be letting us peasants get ideas. 1

CottageHore Posted May 6, 2023 Posted May 6, 2023 Why the hell should we be subject to Biden holding another 4 years in office as the democratic representative as our only option. He’s done a horrible job and might as well be a Republican at this point. Why should he not have to debate another dem?

It's heinous. I will not vote for this man in 2024 There won't be any debates at all if Trump is also the nominee. They both came out of each debate looking horrifyingly unhinged. The first debate especially was a national embarrassment. Debates in general don't change anything anyway. Biden lost every single primary debate, was protested by members of the crowd in many of them for his abominable record, and none of it made a difference. Elderly conservative black voters of South Carolina still wanted the Obama VP for no other reason than that, even though he was visibly declining into senility.

Aren Posted May 6, 2023 Posted May 6, 2023 There won’t be ANY debate this election cycle. There won’t be a Democratic primary debate. Trump will skip the Republican ones, so they’ll either be cancelled or be a non-event. And when comes the general, it’s not in the interest of both Biden and Trump to have debates.
BletaRexher Posted May 6, 2023 Posted May 6, 2023 The way they’re forcing a candidate down our throats we don’t want but they’re against Fascism both parties are dog **** who just use idiots who can’t think past Republican/Democrat labels when voting 1

I love that, despite you being a Clintonite so clearly emotionally resentful of her embarrassing lost, you're still so partisan that you rather fall into arguments that concede that Clinton was just uniquely **** as a person and that her loss does not represent some overall pattern nor trend that Dems going forward should analyze and learn from. 2

What does that have to do with me responding to your comment about not worrying who Republicans send because they are crazy or whatever when clearly the people would still vote for a crazy person into the office as we have history to show that as such was the case in the not so distant pass, but looks like I hit a deep spot with a Clinton stan 1
ClashAndBurn Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 2 hours ago, Helios said: It’s 2023 not 2016. PLEASE MOVE ON. Joe Biden wants Donald Trump to be his opponent because his team thinks he will be an easy win in 2024. The Pied Piper Strategy has been going strong since then, and has been hit-or-miss with multiple failures landing far right lunatics into positions of power. You trying to act like this was solely a 2016 phenomenon and begging progressives to move on from mentioning a strategy that is still being used to this day is exactly why Democrats will continue to lose.
