BLACKPINK smashing as soloists, BTS aren't. Why?

Aside from Jungkook shoving himself everywhere from the FIFA World Cup theme song to Charlie Puth's queerbaiting ass, none of the BTS boys have strong solo numbers whilst:

- Lisa's Money is at 700M on Spotify, 820M on YT and still rising

- LALISA was last confirmed for 700k in Korea and has been steadily selling since then

- Jisoo is smashing in Korea and has been in the digital charts Top 5 for nearly a month now.

- ME by Jisoo has also crossed 1.2M, the highest for any solo female (with TWO tracks only)

- -R- by Rose has crossed 500k in Korea (2021) for a fully English single album, the biggest record after, Lisa and Jisoo.

- Jennie's Solo has over 500M on Spotify and is one of the biggest smashes in Korea for 2018.

- The Solo M/V is nearing 1B by itself on YouTube.

Why are the BLACKPINK girls smashing as soloists while the biggest act globally right now, BTS, is struggling to create hits as soloists? Will Taehyung finally be the smasha to save their group or is the OT7 or nothing tagline becoming true?

While the BTS boys like Suga sell albums and crack 1.1M, JHope with 500k and whatnot, none of them have created any smash hits while almost all of the BLACKPINK girls have a smash hit to their name, why is this?

Ask their fans, but they will probably only scream racism.

BTS has no individual power. The label as at fault they never promoted them as individuals artist.

blackpink and other kpop groups like exo for example are successful individually because there labels did a good job at actually turning each member into a super stars in Korea. Can’t say the same for BTS who aren’t really well known outside the group.

Lol Jimin just went #1 on the Hot 100 a few weeks ago and the stronger members (V & Jungkook) haven’t released yet.

BLACKPINK members are stars BTS members aren’t, and that’s why all their solos flopped

It's kinda the fate for a lot of bands - very little care outside of them as a group as a whole. While BLACKPINK isn't as strong as them musically (mainly because of the extremely sparse releases and subpar music recently), they're MUCH bigger celebs with all their networking. This makes the BLACKPINK girlies a lot more interesting to the casual listener.

Basically this.

+ they started promoting solo quite early on and clearly it helped build their image from the jump as well as collectively building the group’s image. No one cares for the BTS members outside of their fandom.

They are so consistent with their releases it's unlike anyone else ever. Every single song, solo or by the group that they put out is a 10/10 banger with mega expensive production and of a grand sound that no one else quite brings

more than half of BTS members are untalented, unattractive and difficult to market

BTS are super ugly, can't sing like at all and are just overall talentless. BLACKPINK can't relate

BP are succeeding mostly as individual influencers but I wouldn't call any of BTS or Blackpink members mainstream. Well-connected, yes, but despite the media hype none of them are household names yet at least not in the West. But Blackpink has the bigger chance.

Lisa is the only one with a global hit but I don't think it really hit on the American charts like that.

Now, if BP left YG I think they could have more mainstream American success and be known in more than just influencer/fashion/kpop circles. The sky is the limit for them (Jisoo would of course stay in Korea and be an actor). But I think they'll renew with YG unfortunately.

BTS is greater than the sum of its parts, while each individual member of Blackpink is a star on their own

So... they're smashing?  since you consider Jisoo and Rose's albums to be smashing. If we're talking smash hits, I think the only song in the OP that can be considered as such is Jennie's Solo.

Anyway, the day V drops his debut, it's over for all the other soloists. His band members included.

BTS members are unknown as individuals, while BP members are stars, known not just by kpop stans but GP as well.

Navy4Life

BP girls are beautiful, interesting, talented and have organic hits. BTS is none of those things.

There’s too many guys in BTS, with big groups it’s more difficult for each member to show their individual personalities and for the GP to connect and get to know each member.

BLACKPINK only having 4 members works to their benefit, they each get to shine and each having individual and distinguishable voices. So they are more likely to smash solo because they are able to create their own individual fanbases even while in the group

Idk but maybe because individually the BP girls are much bigger celebrity than the BoTS. I don't listen to KPOP at all but I know their name and can recognize their faces, can't say the same for the BoTS.

but that's just me :giraffe:
