Yes. My sister had duodenal switch surgery five years ago. She lost 120 pounds and never gained it back.

Oh gosh, I thought this was the case. She's putting so much stock by her future appearance, I'm worried if she doesn't see the results she's expecting she'll spiral 

Tell her to workout to maintain her new weight. If she doesn't and continues eating how she has been then yeah of course she'll be fat again.

my good friend had a gastric sleeve done. she said the recovery time was surprisingly minimal. she's doing well too. she's down to 300. she's eating healthy and going to the gym.
