This is going to be cliche, but probably Scream.

1. Out of all the horror franchise, this is the one I've re-watched most recently. Scream and Scream 2 will probably forever remain untouched, and I'm okay with that because Scream 5 and Scream 6 were good in their ways. Scream 4 was okay, but it's worth rewatching just for the legendary opening scene and its cast (I'm just a sucker for Emma Roberts and Hayden Peniterre (spelling?). I like to pretend Scream 3 doesn't exist...

Evil Dead would be an understandable pick, however, it has been forever since I've seen Army of Darkness, and I was quite young, so my opinion of it now can drastically change. That being said, similar to Scream, The Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 remain untouched, the 2013 remake is mediocre, and while Evil Dead Rise is slightly overhyped/overrated, it is a pretty decent horror movie.

Halloween is not good. I'm sorry. H20, the 2018 sequel, and the original movie are the only movies worth seeing. Rob Zombie's Halloween movies and Halloween Kills and Ends are so bad. I started to watch Season of the Witch, but I got bored.

A Nightmare on Elm Street is tricky because whereas Evil Dead and Halloween had recent remakes and/or sequels that have been good (if not great), ANOES' remake is not good-- terrible, even. And the second movie is awful. Freddy vs. Jason is also just OK.

That's also why I don't care for Friday the 13th. Even the original is overhyped/not that good.

Child's Play is interesting because, similar to F13, the original isn't that great. The remake is decent but not amazing. I remember Bride and Seed of Chucky being pretty lame.

Final Destination (the first one & as a franchise) is quite annoying. 3 is passable because of Mary Elizabeth (or Elisabeth) Winstead and the opening, but these movies all feel exactly the same. I'd say 3 is decent and 5 was fun seeing in 3D and for its twist, but now, I don't care to re-watch any of these.

The Exorcist 2 is awful and 3 is outdated with the exception of one good scare. The first is fantastic. I remember Dominion not being good. I don't remember Emily Rose too well, but I remember it being mid.

Scream and The Conjuring are both pretty overrated to me. I don't like the whole "meta" part of Scream. I got so tired of hearing "The rules of a slasher film/sequel are ____" 87 times over. It just feels like they try too hard to be clever and act like they're smarter than other slasher franchises while being just as repetitive as the franchises they criticize.

And The Conjuring is exactly the same thing as every other haunted house horror movie ever made.

Exorcism of Emily Rose is actually unrelated to The Exorcist besides the fact they're both supernatural horror movies about exorcisms. It is based on the story of Anneliese Michel.

Scream, Evil Dead, The Conjuring are the most consistent and I also have a soft spot for Halloween even tho they’re beyond inconsistent

My bad! Thanks for the correction.

Lie.

It was Texas Chainsaw massacre that was released first & got its budget back/success that gave them the idea to try with Halloween.

Halloween was way bigger but that doesn’t take away from Texas

that started it all.

while it’s technically the first movie to debut and later have a franchise , Halloween started rolling out it’s sequels sooner …. in fact , TCM2 only happened bc of the success of Halloween 2

Halloween was the first instance of a big blockbuster horror property being actually turned into a franchise , apart from all the Universal monster movies

Scream is just truly perfection with their ongoing storyline. The self referencing and quality is insane for a franchise with 6 movies.

Halloween, Friday etc. are all trash beyond the first and not nice to look at due to their age.

Scream, Halloween and The Evil Dead are the trinity of horror franchise imo :gaycat5:

Scream, easily

Unless Screven is trash, it will become the best long-running franchise no doubt.

All I know is that Scream is hella overrated there.

Anyway, my faves are Halloween - Nightmare - Conjuring

I'm going to say Scream, based on consistency without them needing to do reboots or retcons.

I love Scream, but I need the franchise to start taking bigger risks if it wants to remain #1.

Scream and it's not even debatable

The Evil Dead is my favorite. I've been finally watching the Ash vs Evil Dead show and I'm having a lot of fun.

Also the 2013 movie is one of the best remakes ever imo. I know a lot of people complain about it being too serious, but that's what I like about it because it shows what Sam Raimi eventually wanted to make with the first one, but this time it actually has the budget and modern technology.
