poki Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 Harry Potter has a Broadway show, an official store in NYC, about to get HBO-level remakes, and is one of Lego's top 5 best sellers every year. There is literally no comparison here.
@michael Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 Because it’s becoming reality in front of our eyes and makes us uncomfortable
TROJAN Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 It’s because Harry Potter is fantastical and imagination-driven. Where THG is realistic and too probable that it can actually happen in the real world, and that scares people.

ATRL Moderator Bloo Posted December 28, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted December 28, 2023 People saying quality when we're asking about it compared to Twilight. There's a lot of reasons. First, neither Twilight or the Hunger Games is on the same level as Harry Potter. That's just a bad setup for any series, honestly. Harry Potter is the best selling book series of all time. Nobody should be comparing any other book series to it. That's just mean. As for Twilight vs. Hunger Games, I would say they actually had fairly comparable impact. In terms of pop culture, Twilight was bigger. But you actually had people across the world launch protests using the hand gesture from District 12 from the movies. Hunger Games is also a genre-defining series for young adult dystopia—popularizing one of the defining genres of the 2010s (it's also notable for being the only "successful" mainstream implementation of this formula from the era). Another reason why it falls partly short is that it's dystopia. Nothing about the series is meant to make you want to engage with the series further than the books and/or films. With Harry Potter, you can take quizzes about which House you belong to and have fun with that. You can get excited thinking about how much fun it would be in the world of Harry Potter. You cannot do that with the Hunger Games. Who the hell wants to be in District 12? Also, creating a video game where you go through the experience of the Hunger Games sounds so disturbing and antithetical to the message of the series. Hunger Games isn't meant to be consumed the same way many other YA series are. That's probably the most concordant reason. Also, Mockingjay being made into two movies was the correct decision. There was no single screenplay that could be made to cover that book sufficiently in 2.5 hours. 1
poki Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 (edited) I just found out Lego announced a few days ago a set for Twilight. It won in one of their semi-annual fan votes for fan-made ideas. Recently we had sets for BTS, Sonic, Winnie the Pooh through these fan votes. LEGO's priority is adults these days. Adults that can shell out $200+ several times a year. That adds a very interesting element to this comparison. https://jaysbrickblog.com/news/lego-twilight-cullen-house-and-botanical-garden-are-your-next-lego-ideas-sets/ Edited December 28, 2023 by Hey Dude $200 is the sweet spot, not $300
barbiegrande Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 Twilight has no legacy aside from being a slumber party movie for teen girls. HP is way bigger than both. 1
Prodigal Self Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 I actually have never heard anyone talking about a Hunger Games book, like ever.
