pride4jc1222 Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 2013 - Miley (We Can't Stop and Wrecking Ball were big), but you could argue Katy. 2020 - Gaga was the clear winner (she followed up her success in ASIB with Rain On Me, another #1 hit). I thought Katy was a judge on American Idol this year, and I don't remember her releasing anything.

Plastic Hearts - 2,498,485,330 (+3,232,543) Chromatica - 2,311,878,039 (+835,676) Smile - 1,462,122,178 (+651,418) Quick little peaks on Billboard won't never tell the whole story, longevity is the key. Debuting at #3 did nothing for Stupid Love, it still end up being a bomb worldwide with less streams than Angels Like You and even Harleys in Hawaii. As for the album, Gaga had healthy pure sales thanks to her loyal fanbase, which is nice, but Plastic Hearts still outstreamed Chromatica and has more certifications around the globe. Looking at their current stats, the gap is only getting wider. Quick little peaks but still having similar charting weeks? Also ROM and SL are certified platinum + multi platinum while none of Plastic Hearts single are certified in the US. PH Australia (ARIA)[152] Gold 35,000 Brazil (Pro-Música Brasil)[153] 2× Platinum 80,000 Denmark (IFPI Danmark)[154] Gold 10,000 Italy (FIMI)[155] Gold 25,000 New Zealand (RMNZ)[156] Gold 7,500 Norway (IFPI Norway)[157] Gold 10,000* Poland (ZPAV)[158] Gold 10,000 Spain (PROMUSICAE)[159] Gold 20,000 Switzerland (IFPI Switzerland)[160] Gold 10,000 United Kingdom (BPI)[161] Gold 100,000 Chromatica Canada (Music Canada)[266] Gold 40,000 France (SNEP)[267] Gold 50,000 Italy (FIMI)[268] Platinum 50,000 Norway (IFPI Norway)[269] Gold 10,000* Poland (ZPAV)[270] Platinum 20,000 Singapore (RIAS)[271] Gold 5,000* Spain (PROMUSICAE)[272] Gold 20,000 Switzerland (IFPI Switzerland)[273] Gold 10,000 United Kingdom (BPI)[274] Gold 100,000 United States — 331,000[176] Quote but Plastic Hearts still outstreamed Chromatica and has more certifications around the globe. I guess it only outstreams Chromatica rn and that is sadly not enough to be bigger when it's the only metric where it's bigger than Chromatica

Yes, the album that debuted with only 60k (#2) was able to chart for nearly the same amount of weeks of the one that first started with a much better sales figure (~280k at #1), despite the former losing most of the SPS from the second single. Not the drag you seem to think it is. In the end, PH's overall streams served stability to the point it has now surpassed Chromatica on Spotify (and probably Apple Music too) and the gap is only getting wider. Mind you that Chromatica had a #1 global hit while PH only had moderate hits to support the album. I mean, you just posted their certifications and PH has one more than the other one. 3 hours ago, Zaram said: I guess it only outstreams Chromatica rn and that is sadly not enough to be bigger when it's the only metric where it's bigger than Chromatica Gaga had a good amount of pure sales thanks to her fanbase, which is great, but streaming is literally the most relevant metric of music consumption in the year of 2023, by far. Again, not the drag you seem to think it is. Edited April 27, 2023 by Scars
wish Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 2013: Miley (We Can't Stop era was a cultural moment, Wrecking Ball is a lasting classic) 2020: Miley (Plastic Hearts is enjoying much more longevity than the other two, and Gaga's hype only lasted a month or two) Not sure why anyone is acting like 2020 was a strong year for Gaga... Chromatica had fan hype but died very quickly, compared to PH which is proving to be more timeless.
