Wonderland Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 (edited) From April 22, New Zealand charts will introduce new charts to capture catalogue songs/albums (classified as after 18 months from the date when a song first enters the Top 40). It’s a move they hope will freshen up the top 40 and give newer material a better opportunity to chart. Catalogue charters will retain their charting history when they migrate over and they will make occasional exception for song/albums and give them a 10 week charting period on the official chart (I assume for circumstances like what we had with RUTH). NZ charts leading the world again with this pioneering new way of charting music listening statistics Will link the social media post when I can but it’s on the Official NZ Music Chart page. Thoughts? Could other territories benefit from following NZ’s lead? Edited April 21, 2023 by Wonderland
Gaia Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 18 months????? Don’t most song stop charting by then anyways
Sharamee6 Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 (edited) aka give flops better chances to chart but 18 months? LOL Edited April 20, 2023 by Sharamee6
Wonderland Posted April 20, 2023 Author Posted April 20, 2023 Just now, Gaia said: 18 months????? Don’t most song stop charting by then anyways Not in New Zealand. About a quarter of the chart at the moment would be over this cut-off. Dreams and In The Air have been in the top 40 for 3 years
MusicLoverDude Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 the US should follow suit with all the Xmas songs that return and clog up the chart every December and early January
B-Luke Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 This is a nice change of pace UK Album Charts should follow suit 1
