That's kind of not true. Latin America is called that because almost all the countries are Spanish speaking (and Portuguese speaking) nations deriving from Latin. It's also why countries like Guyana and Suriname are always consistently excluded but also why nations like Haiti, Québec, etc. are included in the definition of Latin America and subsequently the demonym for the inhabitants/descendants of people in that region.

Jesus Christ it was a joke. As the original Latin peoples became the Romans.

Ok all you needed to say was that it was a joke. Sarcasm isn't the most obvious thing in text darling.

You could’ve gotten the context of the comment. It was plain and obvious. Who else spoke Latin at that time besides the Romans.

You already said your intention. Misunderstandings happen, but the "context" let alone the few tone indicators you can pick up in text as opposed to speech very much did not give obvious joke indicators.

if it helps you sleep better at night you can die on the hill of it being such an obvious joke that everyone would get it. I don't particularly care.

It's because a lot don't know the difference between Cleopatra and Nefertiti.

Everytime there is like a casting news about a 'Cleopatra' movie, I punctually caught people in the comments posting photos of Nefertiti :deadbanana:

Here's the main issue of why this "docu" is silly. It exploits Americans' ignorance to the actual real history and produces a propaganda instead. Remember when people were dragging Rami Malek for "whitewashing" Pharaohs when he's actual Egyptian?
Like, if they want to make a document about an actual powerful black woman, Amanitore is literally right there. *Nzinga Mbande* is right there.

The world really hates black people.

Even the "the non whites" countries.

If they would have done another biopic with a White woman even if It's not 100% sure no one would complain like this.

The reaction is always strongest when this kind of things are involving black people.

Um... You do realize that this is the exact description of what is happening, right? :ace: Cleopatra is that white woman! She's inbred af from a Greek colonizer ruling dynasty over Egypt.

The fact that he is suing for promoting "Afrocentrism" but has probably had no problem seeing "Cleopatra" portrayed by Elizabeth Taylor on the big screen or seeing the probable likes of Angelina Jolie or Gal Gadot playing her tells me everything I need to know about him. :mazen:

oh i forgot gal gadot was up to play her too but her being middle eastern doesn't that make her more qualified

Rightfully so. This isn't a fictional character so you may pick and choose who's play her.

Arabs can look as "European" and "fair skinned" as it gets, to tanned and rugged, to very dark "skin".

What a shame, it is the year 2023 yet the west is still hung up on colour. Cleopatra was Egyptian with a Greek background. She was tanned skinned/ olive leaning on the "fair" skin. And once again we are discussing how a woman looks like rather than her accomplishment. But what else is new?

Jesus wasn't Arab but his appearance probably resembled them more than how he is depicted now
Also are you talking about Islam? Because Arabs were around during Jesus' life

And Jesus’ depictions throughout the centuries were a product of what people thought he looked like. Traveling outside of your village wasn’t as common.

Look at Chinesus:

To know what he really looked like one just has to look at the average Jew or Samaritan.

There was a kingdom in Jordan and the Negev and some nomadic tribes, but they didn’t become a significant percentage of the population of Judea until the invasions.

There's a little Abit of ....misinformation happening in the second comment :rip:

First of all, Arabs come in many .... "Forms". To give you a prime example, All of my siblings have BLONDE hair and blue eyes and my father has green eyes. Yet we're actual ARABS :rip:   My eldest brother looks straight up " Caucasian" and so do my sisters. Only me and my other brother have olive skin. And I was actually born with completely fair skin and RED hair :rip:

Also @ProudLBS you can try and rewrite history as much as you want to "divert" and whitewash people/history just so you could sleep better at night. Jesus was born in Palestine and that is part of the Arab region :michael: . Palestinian people just like any other Arab country have all types of "colours" and "skins" yet still have middle eastern/Arab resemblance. So we MAY have the right depiction of Jesus after all. Since most Palestinian people can easily pass as Caucasian. Still with ARAB features.

And why would depicting Jesus Christ as an Arab be "complete revisionism"? He was born in the middle of an ARAB country. Make it make sense sis he surely ain't European :rip:  do you honestly believe that Christians do not exist in the middle east or the Arab countries? Or Jewish people for that matter? :rip: there's also countless of other religions and minorities existing in that region.

I dislike speaking about "colour" and ethnicities so much tbh. But I dislike stereotypes even more.

Except Jesus was not a Palestinian, or an Arab for that matter. He was a Jewish man from Judea.

And he wasn’t “born in the middle of an ARAB country”, that’s COLONIALISM :deadbanana4:

Like I said previously, picking an Arab guy to play Jesus would be one thing (it’s called acting and I didn’t say anything about skin tones and hair colors) but to portray him as “an actual Arab” implies he was an Arab when he… was not. Hence the “revisionism.”

I never said Jesus was European :rip:All I said was that traveling to other places wasn’t as common so people from Northern Europe assumed he looked Northern European and Chinese people assumed he looked Chinese.

Of course I know Christians, Jews and other other minorities exist in the Middle East, my boyfriend is from there and I go there every few months :rip: I literally mentioned Jews and Samaritans.

Jesus wasn't an Arab per say. And no that's not "colonialism" since Yemenis basically moved up since the lands were empty and good for living. Hence Arabs AND Israelis co-existed in Palestine. The country itself was/is Palestine ( don't confuse it with current political title though) . So technically he's a Palestinian (Land wise, citizenship) which has always been referred to as such.

And since you have this good amount of knowledge you should know that jews/ ISRAELIS existed within Saudi Arabia , Before , during and even AFTER Islam had started. The epitomy of Arabs (Quraish) had respected neighbouring Jewish/ Israelis (bani Israel) . Not to mention other Arab countries as well. Until THEY have decided to move up to Palestine/Israel . Does that mean they're not Arab? That's your logic :michael:

Then again, my entire point was about the fact that people of many different ethnic backgrounds and locations can have various looks and skin colours ( as cliche as this sounds). Whether or not Jesus had the same tone and completion he's portrayed as , he was simply born in the middle east the same as his mother. However Arabs as well can have fairer skins and even blonde hair. I think you'd know since you travel to the middle east regularly. In this case Egyptians too.

I've seen comments above attacking Egyptians for not claiming to be African and that is just wrong. Some Egyptians are just frustrated that their Arab, Egyptian north African heritage is portrayed slightly differently. After all there are 24 Arab countries in the world. Including the entirety of the northern African region. Which identifies as Arab first then to their singular countries, THEN to their origins and after that to their African heritage due to geography.

Their main issue is the dismissal of Cleopatra's heritage, citizenship and her look. After all she was LIVING in Egypt regardless of heritage. So she obviously belonged.

Screaming at the shameless revisionism. :rip: At the time when Jesus lived, there was no Palestine. The Romans did not rename Judea until later, after he died. So referring to him as a Palestinian doesn't make any sense.

The Palestinian Arabs that you're talking about are mostly Arabs that came to the land during the 7th century, after the Jewish uprising against the Byzantine empire which left the region weakened, just in time for the early Muslim conquests. Muslim soldiers from the Hejaz arrived at the Levant and found this part of it pretty easy to conquer. They took over, and made Arabic the new official language. There was barely any Jewish population left, the ones who weren't dead were pushed out of their homeland.

And you can't say Arabs and Israelis (assuming you're referring to the Jews) co-existed either, since the few remaining Jews in the region were literally considered second class citizens until the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire.

This reeks of pan-arabism.
