Haze Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Any fantasy writer worth their name has been able to flesh out their world and have multiple stories take place in it. Rowling cannot write anything that doesn't depend on Harry Potter related characters, because while competent enough to write an entertaining children's story, she completely sucks at world building and giving her systems of magic any coherency. So it is understandable that they fall back to the series that has sold well in the past, as it is probably the only way to make money of this franchise, since I doubt that evil woman will allow anyone else to write original stories within that world. It's all very sad and pathetic by everyone involved. 5

NoAngelus Posted September 10 Posted September 10 I can't believe we have to live for the next 1--15 years with this already awful show instead of getting good prequel/sequel movies... Why not just make a movie about that Lupin, Sirius and James in Hogwarts, using that story from 3rd book as inspiration.... Slam dunk. 1

That would require them to actually think of a new, original story that works with the rest of the lore. It's easier for them to just re-do the already existing stuff. Also disappointed about it.

Well they could ask JK to expand on that story and give screenwriters notes and ideas and they could write characters from scratch because we actually don't know them as teenagers.

I totally agree with you. But it's easier for them that way sadly.
Venice B Posted September 11 Posted September 11 The way this is gonna flop immensily I think the Harry Potter brand finally lost a lot of power and relevancy. Maybe this reboot will aim for a new audience but I don't have faith in this.
Thin White Duke Posted September 11 Posted September 11 They should have went for a Marauders but make it gay af if they wanted a hit 1

She literally came up with Lupin and Tonks real quick when she saw people shipping him and Sirius back in the day

It's always the same nah, the production is already struggling. apparently they only are doing the open casting call because they could not for the life of them find actors whose agents though it was a good idea to work on a JK Rowling based IP series. Not to mention that, given how TV is produced now, this show will "realistically" have to run for about 15 years... combine that with the aging child actors, David Zaslav and a continued diminished interest in HP apart from longtime fans and I will be surprised if this show ever makes it on air, and if it does, lasts more than 2 or 3 seasons. 1 1

Thin White Duke Posted September 12 Posted September 12 (edited) Anyway, some of the main cast are going to be race-switched and everyone is going to lose their mind with all the "too woke" talks. There's a few characters that, yes, need to stay white if you ask me, but some don't really, and it wouldn't change their arch, story or vibe in any way. Take the three main characters for example: While technically Ron doesn't have to be white, changing the red hair, white "loser" thing wouldn't be a good idea - it would throw off the vibe. Hermione and even Harry don't have to be imo, it really doesn't matter. Edited September 12 by Thin White Duke
Kern Posted September 12 Posted September 12 the original movie series/books were amazing because of the mysteries and plot twists, people just wanted to know 'what is hiding in that chamber?' 'who is that mysterious person?' etc. reboot will only work for people who know nothing about Harry Potter, the rest already know what happened
Feanor Posted September 12 Posted September 12 They should pull a The Crown and switch out the kid actors every 2-3 school years.

ctlp27 Posted September 12 Posted September 12 I mean, when the films came out, most of the audience had read the books, so it's not like there were any big surprises lol There were literally none (except for all the stuff they cut).
TheDreamer Posted September 12 Posted September 12 At this point they should just make an animated TV show because the way TV productions are going we will be getting 1 season every 3 years at least
