Harry Potter’ TV Series Zeroes In On Premise As Selected Writers Pitch Their Ideas To Max

Martha Hillier, Kathleen Jordan, Tom Moran and Michael Lesslie are among those who are presenting their visions to the streaming service and Warner Bros Television, sources said. It’s an interesting mix of Brits and Americans. We’ve heard that the group of writers were commissioned by Max to create pitches for a series reflecting their take on the IP.

We hear the first round of pitch meetings happened in Los Angeles this week and sources said that the top choices will go on to the next round in the UK. It is unclear how involved Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, who lives in Edinburgh, Scotland, has been with the process, but she is expected to be involved in the decision-making on the series, which she executive produces.

Deadline understands that there may also be an opportunity for more than one of these writers to be involved, and that Max is open to the possibility of developing more than one idea based on Harry Potter.

The Harry Potter series will be produced by Brontë Film and TV, the production company chaired by Rowling’s agent Neil Blair, and Warner Bros Television. The pair will exec produce with Brontë CEO Ruth Kenley-Letts and David Heyman, who produced the movies, was in talks to exec produce.

In April, Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav said that Harry Potter on Max will be “a decade-long one.”

I feel terrible for the inevitable diversity hire that will replace one of the trio. The decade-long vitriol they’d have to endure from the internet would be brutal.

Exactly. The movies still feels fresh and not dated. So this feel too early. Maybe another 10 years plus would have been more appropriate.

They should do a prequel with the parents and murauders instead

Hot girl lily

jock boy James and his crew the muruaders

even if it weren't for the broadway version, i would assume hermione.

i don't think they're bold enough to make their lead a poc.

and if they did it to ron it would come off kinda weird with all the references to how poor his family is.

I saw the first 3 movies recently. First one definitely has some bad scenes (the one where they run towards Harry after he got back that memory orb. It really screams "okay now everyone run towards this direction and act very excited"). Second one still feels a bit too abrupt and sudden in the last act.

3rd one is good as a movie if you don't think too much about the obvious plot holes of the time warp necklace

So I think the first two definitely have good charm but a remake could help lift them a bit because I feel for those two they still tried to find out how they want to visualize the world.

I hope they cast Jenna Ortega as Hagrid

I want this so badly. I used to join roleplay forums back in the day with the marauders era being the premise.

weasleys being ginger is like an integral part of the story. are they gonna make all of them poc? :skull: the show would be panned simply based on that and no one would watch. we don't want established characters changing races, we want well-written poc characters that are not just in the background for points.

i need y'all to have some faith in HBO sistrens, they been giving us so much quality.

Why?

I’m so fckn excited for this. First and foremost I just hope we get a more fleshed out goblet of fire. Hermione’s sub story about the house elf’s. The Weasley's floo powdering into the dursleys. Peeves could be great. Joan Collins said her one career regret was not being in Harry Potter so I hope they offer her something, Mrs fig or whoever.  It could be really decent. First post here because I’ve been kinda nervous about the vitriol so I’ll just say - nobody @ me nor down vote me about politics - it’s a children’s story, it’ll be rebooted regardless. Y’all take no umbrage with Alice and Wonderland being shoved on generation after generation of kids when its inception was literally part of the grooming process of a nine year old child.

I honestly don’t see them race bending any of the main trio characters. Especially with how WBD seems to be trying to appeal more to conservatives.

I guess they rly couldnt get them back esp with JK still being involved so they're going ahead w this
