true, but this is not a unique take, ppl have been saying this for 20+ years.

Admittedly yes, but whenever black people show up on the show, they were portraited in positive light eg. Ross gf, Joey neighbor

Why not single out the cast of a show that’s still in production that lacks diversity? It’s true but what exactly are they able to do about it now?

yawn... the shows been over for almost 20 years. let it rest.

How many times do we have to hear this? Yes, anyone who cares knows about this topic. Friends is one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. There is nothing anyone can say to change that. Trying to drag it down, 20 years later isn’t going to do anything.

Black people only showed up on the show after there were complaints about the lack of diversity on the show

It wasn’t so much that the main cast didn’t have black people but the argument has always been that they were not even black background characters and/or guests and the show was base in New York where they are plenty black people. I don’t know anything about abbott elementary but maybe they have diverse guests and background characters. Besides, this argument is dumb. That’s like people getting mad about BET or HBCUs when the reason black only spaces exist was because black people weren’t allowed in white spaces to begin with. There is nothing wrong with black people creating their own spaces as a result of being rejected by the majority group.

This is such a tired narrative

I'm from Eastern Europe, I grew up on Family Matters and Fresh Prince reruns, those were as popular as Friends. So there was africanamerican representation during that time. And keep in mind that during the 90s, like 7% of the US population was black, its quite normal for some shows to have just white characters when the population is overwhelmingly white :rip:
