Seems like blatant colorism. Nani had a medium complexion.

I’ll have to see a trailer to judge her acting. But she is actually Hawaiian apparently

The fact that Nani is literally dark skin but ofc Hollywood casting someone who are light skin in the live action

If you don't it see as a blatant colourism, then you're in denial. Sorry not sorry :michael:

It was only a matter of time before someone screwed up.

She looks perfect for the role. I’m looking forward to seeing this movie. Lilo and Stitch is one of my favorite movies from Disney.

Blatant "colorism" as if disney hasn't been intentionally casting characters with darker complexions. :rip:

Like, I dont even mean this as a "whataboutism" or a "gotcha" because im in the party of NOT CARING ABOUT WHO IS CASTED IN A LIVE ACTION REMAKE OF A CARTOON.

Yes because casting people with darker complexions = colorism :cm:

I am not saying that, I'm saying the argument that colorism is happening here is short sighted when disney has been doing the exact opposite for multiple releases now.

Especially when "colorism" is thrown at someone who isn't white :rip:

She and tia are both half Filipina, Hawaiian descent and Tia being half Chinese and Syndney is half white.

It’s funny because people that are mad at this casting is that race who think Nani is supposed to be dark skinned lol

Internet is in uproar after a white actress is cast as Nani, the Hawaiian sister of LILO. Thoughts?
I would need to see her acting and the trailer before I judge. We don’t need another Ariel is black controversy that is blown out of proportions, let these women act. Disney could have hired a Native Hawaiian tho

Sydney Agudong is an actress, singer, and professional songwriter, born and raised on the island of Kaua'i, Hawai'i.

the colorism, yikes

Twitter can be so vicious. I think she's perfect for the role. Also, she was born and raised in Hawaii and has AAPI heritage so these comments feel very dismissive of her ethnic identity and upbringing.

Of course you guys dont see a problem of casting a light skin actress for the Nani role:rip: I bet most you were mad when they cast Halle for Ariel, colorism is real.

Apparently she has no indegious hawaiian blood, I'm not Hawaiian so I can't say how they feel but it's serving colourism.

I understand the colourism concerns, most definitely. But she was literally born and raised in Hawaii. :rip: These prerequisites people are putting on actors are getting pretty ridiculous at this point.

But Twitter told us Disney simply picked the best actor for the role in the cases of Ariel and Tinkerbell. So I guess they must have done that again :giraffe:

The way some of you are even subtle with it anymore...

Always been fan with Halle as Ariel but damn all the anger for this casting is just embarassing, especially considering she's from Hawaii :dies:

not specifically talking about this but i’ll never get how so many people still get angry for whatever reasons at live remakes that will be ass anyway just like the last 30 we’re complete garbage :rip:

just end lazy live remakes and disney altogether atp…

It's not really the same thing. Ariel is a fantasy creature. Lilo & Nani are explicitly indigenous Hawaiian descent. This actress is White and Filipino as far as I'm aware and doesn't even look like her.

I'm not losing sleep over it (like who actually cares), and I'll leave the outrage or lackthereof, to actual people of indigenous Hawaiian descent. But it is predictable that a POC role, particularly one of AAPI heritage, would be half white (and visibly so).
